Over the past week, you may have seen a Dead By Daylight streamer and content creator by the name of Jane Romero engaged in drama on Twitter. We need to talk about what happened and where we go from here.
I want to reiterate: sending hate to Jane will not help anything. She is taking a break so leave her to it. In the meantime, use that energy to promote and send love to other streamers in the community.

Any transphobia I see in the comments will result in a ban from the channel. Use that energy to go and show love, it’s better for everyone involved 💙
let's attack Jane!! give her a taste of her own medicine!! yeah!!!
I love how people act like the shield of anonymity behind a keyboard is somehow a new concept. If you are in the content creation space, this is in fact, part of the gig. Like it or not, there will be a jackass out there somewhere who's gonna do something to try to ruffle your feathers. If you don't have the mental capacity or mental health to endure that, this isn't the life for you. Should it be this way? Absolutely not, but no amount of screaming from the rooftops will change that. The song remains the same for the internet.
Also, if anyone thinks all of the harassment Jane has said she's endured is entirely rooted in transphobia, I think we should probably look a little deeper. People on the internet are like children. They will find where you are different and pray on it. They will say anything to hurt your feelings. Short, tall, fat, skinny, hair color, race, sexuality, etc. etc. THEY WILL FIND IT and their intent is to HURT YOU! The comment made is selected on what will hurt you the most and a lot of the times has NOTHING to do with someone's actual rooted feelings. This has been going on since the advent of online gaming in the 90s.
Maybe just maybe, if we just started looking at the intent rather than trying to find ways to become offended, and wrote off the people who are clearly trying to hurt us by their comments, the world will be just a little bit of a better place. Also, never forget to consider the source. You're not fixing stupid. 😉
As a trans woman I a thousand percent agree with this entire video 💞
The beanie is back! You look good without it but I missed seeing it!
Now that I addressed that, Aaron I agree with everything you said regarding keeping in mind the mental state of individuals and having empathy for individuals when they are lashing out as it could very well be a symptom of other mistreatment going on in their lives.
I cannot help but think about all the other people you have made video’s on who did not get this kind of consideration. I am thinking it is probably because you have more of an awareness of the situation.
However, this consideration should be given to everyone I think it’s so good that you put this in here but every person you cover should I think have the benefit of possible empathy regardless of gender, race, etc. Everyone from every community deserves protection, and I would like to hear more from you encouraging people to think about what someone may be going thru in every video you make. Even when they seem like there really is no redeeming factor you never really know.
Im skull merchant phobic
She used being trans as a shield. No I'm sorry but this is victim mentality at its finest. She's using the fact she's trans to attack, cancel, harass and view shame people for simply disagreeing with her. Then cries victim when she gets called out. Absolutely not she should be ashamed of herself.
Don't dish it out if you can't take it. Ez. If life is so hard then why be so vocal? I'm trans too it literalky has nothing to do with that
I do not know Jane personally but I know that she's from the deep South of Italy and that's where I was raised too. It was hard enough being a closeted gay man there, so I can't imagine what it feels like to be a trans woman living in that area. That's no justification to her behaviour but it could be useful to understand where a lot of her anger, resentment and on-the-defensive attitude come from.
Interesting how you try to minimise her actions by saying she's been through a lot of harassment. But with other "toxic" streamers, they're just toxic.
That girl seriously needs help. Not only gender, but she is also changing her name constantly (Jane, Adriana, whatever). I think she needs to find an identity for herself not traying to be someone else
You are my safe place YouTuber, you are kind compassionate, and try to be as fair as possible and we need more content creators like you <3 keep the love going <3
Hi Jane
weird
Her behavior needed to be checked a long time ago and things like what happened could have been avoided.
Thank you for explaining what happened!
Okay, This is going to be a long one but I do hope you Read it Aaron.
There is a whole slew of problems with Jane, way too many to account for honestly and even list so I'll just go over the major critiques. I've interacted with Jane quite a bit, supported her even if you've seen me in her twitter comment sections but it wasn't always like that. For a long time now even before Skull Merchant, dealing with Jane was like walking across the North Korean DMZ, the smallest thing could set off a mine and then a full scale war with her. One of our first interactions was me critiquing her takes on VILLAINIZING BHVR for something they had to pull back on with some LGBTQ event and she took it as a personal attack which at the time could've likely killed my twitch career when I was only explaining how game development/scheduling is always done MONTHS in advance not the timeframe she gave. Luckily I was able to steer clear of it and we were able to talk then and even in the future, heck she even acknowledged some of my criticisms.
Janes whole world view is sadly a 'Me me me' mentality. It doesn't matter how 99.9% Of Skull Merchants play it matters how SHE PLAYS so that must mean many more play like that (They really don't) and don't get me wrong she's an amazing proactive skull merchant (She does become a 3 gen andy if the game isn't in her favor sometimes). She fails to consider how the OTHER SIDE views a characters horrible design that she enjoys after binging the game for what? 2 weeks after Skull Merchants release playing her and only her never survivor so almost every single take she had was a one sided bias without ever having gone against a Skull Merchant at the time which I did point out to her and she acknowledged it had some 'truth' to it I don't remember the words exactly. Then when it comes to anything LGBTQ she has some dire need to bring all the attention to her for it, to be the FACE of it like she's some arbiter and sadly the worst thing about her is she's one of the absolute worst faces/representations for the LGBTQ side of DBD because of how she handles herself and is completely unwilling to take criticism, has to conflate almost every single thing for LGBTQ, Pushes FAAAAR to hard for certain things and overall being extremely volatile towards everyone who isn't sucking her toes.
Jane CAN be a wonderful person to be around but sadly she's not someone anyone would want to be around even in their best days because of one major, rather damaging flaw. She's a magnet for negativity despite wanting to spread positivity, she sees tranphobia where there isn't anything of the sorts. While yes I understand she suffers actual transphobic attacks I'm sorry to say but…. endgame chat is nothing to get riled up over, just go next rather than sit there and engage giving them exactly what they want, especially with this whole Hens situation where you can see the mental deterioration she's going through full force where Universally used words in the english language that are rather gender neutral in context (Seriously how many girls in the US say 'Bro' to one another, a lot.), which is where her second major flaw with this comes in. She's italian first and foremost, not english while engaging with a secondary language so many things get lost in translation and you see that on full display in many of her issues, especially the whole ableism thing I ain't even going to entertain because I honestly can't even take that term seriously anymore thanks to how its lost all meaning at this point.
Now the whole "Hurr Hurr White Cis opinion" bullshit. Honestly I'm quite sick of this mindset. Just because you aren't apart of a minority doesn't mean you can't hold an opinion on their issues or something regarding the LGBTQ and sadly Jane is one of those people who holds this mentality that makes me REALLY want to turn my back on her and just not even bother. Like sorry to say but without garnering 'White Cis Male' support and just pushing them away because they have slightly differing opinions and or have a critique on you, you just foster more people with a sour view on Trans folk and I'll be full mask off here, this very mindset is why I myself have a 'soured view' on most I come across outside of my own Trans friends. Why engage and try to put a word in if I'm just gonna get scoffed at cause of my skin color and where I wanna put my dick? She's only creating more transphobes this way (As are any other trans folks spewing this dumb shit.)
Overall…. I know this is gonna sound crude to say, and even cruel to some but Jane isn't mentally all there, nor mentally capable of being given the platform she has. She's not mature enough to understand context, she's clearly got many more psych issues going on up in her head I ain't even gonna try and be 'Home doctor' to diagnose but anyone with a basic understanding could tell you that. She needs to step away from the computer, go outside and recollect herself for a week or month. Her twitch/twitter as you said are Ride or Die in terms of viewers and shes formed such an echo chamber she could never do any wrong with them yes-manning her all day every day. I do hope she comes out of this a better person with some reflection.
Why are so many people coming to her defense on Twitter when there have been countless other creators who have gotten cancelled for less?
They’re arguing to leave her alone at this point and that people are only attacking her to this extent because she is trans.
What they don’t realize is that they’re using the same tactic she used, which is using the the trans card and minimizing people’s feelings about the harm she’s done. (By the way, jokes about her gender are not okay.)
The irony is RICH, but I am not even surprised these people lack the self-awareness to come to that realization.
Like 'the boy who cried wolf', people get insensitive about her accusations of transphobic behaviour if it's not valid or thrown around easily as a reaction to slight things that might be triggering to her, but isn't comprehensible to others as transphobic behaviour (the 'crazy' incident or Hens333 gaming lingo 'bro'). True vile and transphobic remarks might drown in the midst of all the constant accusations and could be rather smiled upon (in a dismissive way) by others than her receiving the support and aid she truly needs.
She needs a social media clense to get out of the constant mindset, that everyone is out there to criticise her being trans and she truely needs to learn to discern between TRUE transphobia and everything else that might come her way. As a content creator, you put yourself out there. That alone makes you a target for criticism. Many content creators have to deal with hate that's thrown their way and it's your challenge as a content creator to deal with that the RIGHT way. People look up to you and get influenced by you. It's a huge responsibility.
That being said, the memes about Jane and the TRUE transphobic behaviour that's been emerging with the backlash she's received is not helping and rather disgusting. Her being called out for wrong behaviour, her mistakes and the rightful criticism concerning her current mindset doesn't give you the excuse to be vile and hurtful towards her. If that's you, take a social media cleanse as well and reflect on what kind of human you are. Peace out.
Also hi Aaron! Please respond💕
Beautifully said Aaron. One of the reasons why you are one of my favorite creators
I’ve lost all respect for Jane over the past few months. She continues to use her transgender status as a shield against all accusations and criticism. It’s embarrassing and downplays causes of REAL transphobia.
My Fav streamer is SierraRuns. I will always enjoy her content
This whole situation is crazy. Ironic, isn't it?
Anyone that is identifying as a video game character and then trying to get the game company to rewrite Jane as trans for “JaneJune” is unhinged
I think the response of Jane brings an excellent point. As you suggested, her followers are very ride or die. A few content creators seemed to indicate Jane was in the right to act the way that she did. I feel like she has too many people encouraging her to continue in this behavior for whatever reason (I don't know the motives of said individuals so it's a moot point to try and guess). I fear this encouragement will lead her to add fuel to the fire of those who mock her mental health and the situation boils over to one day wind up in tragedy. I honestly hope that does not happen but it's a fear I have.
Monetizing a video about a trans woman who is visibly getting attacked and bullied in these comments doesn't make you a good guy. I definitely don't agree with what she did but releasing this video was so unnecessary
Jesus christ some people really are trying so hard to be painted as a victim all the time… get over yourself and log off
Some of this stuff is why trans people are hated on so much when in reality, the majority are just normal loving people who just want to be accepted.
From what i can see here, she's a manipulative bully. She's using guilt tactics like "don't speak over trans voices, it doesn't make you a good ally" i.e you're against my identity for having an opinion on my behaviour and you've disappointed me. Fuck that, gay people like myself don't have the right to tell straight people to shut up, especially when they're speaking to us from a different perspective but respectfully. It's the same for trans people. She's not special for being trans, she's no more important than anyone else
When you've had a lot of people be mean to you in your lifetime, sometimes people see everything as an attack. I've had a lot of people be mean to me in my life so I tend to be defensive sometimes. I'm still learning that not everyone is being mean to me. I'm not trans so I can't speak on that part but calling people ableists just because they disagree isn't right. I've struggled with depression and a crippling anxiety disorder for a long time and people have said I'm crazy for sending myself to certain maps as Trickster. I don't take that personally xD
I like this video a lot. It seems relatively unbiased and just shows facts, but you do give your own opinion towards the end. It's a good split in terms of seeing it unbiased, and then separately getting your opinion on the situation.
Now ill pretend to be a dbd survivor but be less agressive towards people who correct me
Bro, these people need to grow up. If the word 'crazy' sets you off then there is no possible way you could handle what I gotta say.
She will never be a fog whisperer which was her dream, crazy how she just blew up what she built so quickly and will never recover to what she was once seen as as a content creator.
this is not hate, nor defending jane, and i usually stay tf out of topics like this but seeing how jane acted actually made me irritated enough to leave my thoughts and they can be interpreted in any way, but she overstepped and they probably realized it and tried to back over to the safer line by throwing the accusations until they was on “safer” grounds, and yea i can agree no point trying to go and get them to see their error its best to just leave them alone to fight their own struggles, and with what aaron said i agree with, i will leave this comment off with this, sometimes its best to tank the attacks and use that as a way to self reflect then to use and turn it into ammunition towards others, i want the dbd commun and other communs to get along and i would like world peace but ik how pointless that would be in the end people will always have separate opinions which has a 50/50 chance for conflict so let all hope for things to improve for the better
The dbd Twitter community is so dramatic.
Like, I understand that the word "crazy" is ableist, but here the person didn"t insult her… They were criticizing her opinion on a previous subject, and she makes things worse by saying there was an "ableist meaning behind" can't remember exactly how she wrote it, too lazy to go back in the vid lol. But, she is talking as if she knew better, and the way she manipulates peoples, nah…
And the worst is, this word may be ableist, but it was so normalised that people don't even think it as it.. not that using it is good either (I think we shouldn"t use it anyway), but this person didn't seem to have this intention… Like you don"t need to pull them down nor call them out, they may not knew…
"Starting to find issue"? It took people this long to find out she had a massive victim complex and sent her white knights to harass people for her? Took people this long to find out she's a manipulative snake?
I don’t even like this girl and I still feel like this was so dumb to make. This community thrives off of negativity so much that they’ll allow people to make money and content off of talking about others instead of making their own content. It’s laughable
Honestly I seen a lot of her posts, and she just always seemed to start arguments for the sake of it and claim everyone was transphobic who disagreed with her.
She was very very problematic and loved the drama way too much.
Glad to see her gone TBH, literally toxic as hell.
I also believe that everyone feeding in to her being “Jane Romero” was not helping her case at all as she built her entire identity around a VIDEO GAME CHARACTER. People were just enabling an obvious (to me and I’m sure others) identity/social disorder. (Nothing to do with them being trans, just them fully identifying as a fictional character, which is not healthy)
Honestly I think she’s just having a mental and emotional burnout let’s be honest being in front of a screen full time and seeing a lot of negative and hurtful comments. Now little critiques make it seem like they’re huge to her
Just gonna say block buttons exist
Not related to the video, but to the comment section. Aaron wasn't playing about those bans. I see so many comments and replies where people reply to a user that doesn't have a comment. Someone even said they must be telling with a name like YT Edgelord 😅😅
Pov: the worst pepole are the ones that name their social media account as a fictional character.
I just need to vent on this a bit. I have seen a couple of times in this community where Jane has said some typically unpopular opinions, maybe even a little out of touch to some, and when people disagree with her, she has a very sensitive and aggressive reaction. Now I do understand that we don’t get exactly what she goes through, but in my opinion that never makes being so hostile excusable. You don’t go around lashing out a people.
Second, I understand that “crazy” CAN be used in the literal term but I don’t think it’s healthy to start locking words behind terms like “ableist” when they are not slurs or are commonly used for other meanings. Ironically, I believe if you disregard something because you want to believe something is ableist, that seems very gatekeepy and is being forced on the conversation to gain the high ground.
third, I know it’s maybe a bit controversial but I do see “cis” as a slur. I never made the conscious decision to see it as an insult, but I have almost never seen it used respectfully and is almost always used to talk down to straight/white/binary-oriented people. 2 years ago someone I was close to referred to someone as cis very casually and it felt weird bc they meant it in a way just to say they were stupid about something completely unrelated to gender (upset bc he couldn’t drop his dog off at doggie daycare)
Jane seems like someone who's in a lot of pain. Hurt people lash out against the people around them. This community fuels that. You put someone who already hates themselves in to this community they will only hate themselves more. This isnt a healthy community.
very well said
I'm an ally, an ally of GOOD people who fall into that category, not those who use it as a shield to cover up their actions and/or weaponize their audiences. I've met wonderful trans people and terrible trans people, but I'm in support of those who are good people regardless of their identity.
