What was Dead by Daylight’s BEST Meta?

Hey everyone, today we’re asking the question of what was DbD’s best meta? This was a question I wanted to ask, because to me, the worst meta is pretty clear, but when I try to think of the best meta… I kind of came up with nothing. I asked some of you too, and the answer was always pretty vague or there was no clear point or meta that was considered good or healthy.

  1. A Chase meta would imply faster chases, chases mattering more. For example “if you lose a chase gens go 50% slower”… Not just “Gen perks”. Besides Nurse, Clown, Artist, Trickster, Freddy, and Spirit are already “Chase meta” killers. They aren’t fun. But those are the Anti Loop, Game Defying, & Reaction Time Chase meta killers…

Chase meta killers like Huntress feel much more fair ofc. It’s more so about skill rather than what kinda headset you have. Blight, and Billy are a mix of Chase meta, and Mobility meta but this is within the arc of killer genres Ik referring to. This video is very survivor scoped which is a narrow way to look at things especially in regards to survivor gameplay being affected…

The Problem is the balancing, and game design of killer powers for a grand part of why survivor is boring. BHVR’s new killer design results in making a killer as annoying as possible to go against regardless of strength. And not all that fun to play as either. It’s disappointing, it’s almost like focus on fixing the powers of killers you do have in game, and making the game more seamless instead of adding more killers that need extra resources drawn from the department…

The only real engaging killer power designs seem to be: Billy, Huntress, Bubba, Blight, Deathslinger (kinda), Demogorgan (To an extent) Wraith (to a lesser extent but he counts imo), Wesker (depends on build heavily), and in that order from best to worst as far as the chases, and game play being engaging. However I’ll add that killers like Blight depend heavily on the addons being used, or if they are using pure Bump Logic vs Flicks. Billy if he’s flicking the addons don’t matter much as far as fun depletion.

  2. How can you say a chase meta isn't possible when chasing survivors is the best form of gen slowdown? The strongest build for the longest time was star struck nurse, a chase based build. Your whole argument is flawed

  3. My fav meta in the game was prolly ruin pop (at least in comparison to the cob eruption we got now) cuz ruin could just be dealt with via cleansing and pop actually needed u to do smth in order to get it, while today, COB and eruption are just nearly free at any time. But the shrine idea defo sounds interesting 🙂

  4. u know why most ppl complain about gen rush ? not bcs the gen speed is fasst (actually yes) or bcs of gen kicking is not gud enough . It’s all bcs killer in this game never actually tunnel anyone they found first . like dude if u delete some1 first then even if there r only 2 or even 1 gen left u can still win . if u just go out there and chase and hook some many different ppl , u will end up getting rush if ur chase r so bad.and when that happen gen kick META come in play and ig that work

  5. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t agree that Pain Res is fair. Tunneling a survivor could mean getting an easy 30-45% percent (depending on how many times you are willing to hook them) in an unthinkable amount of time. Even if they have Off The Record, if you wanna tunnel, you can tunnel. So, in that case, you can cheese so easily. Tunnel, and if the other survivors are doing gens while you tunnel, it won’t matter because you’re getting easy gen regression without even visiting a single gen yourself. “That’s why the perk’s good.” Yeah, that’s an issue. The whole point of gen fighting was for the killer to have to visit the gen. Even with Ruin, you still had to go there and push them off of the gen. Not with Pain Res.

Also, I wouldn’t agree that this meta isn’t close to the worst we’ve seen. Perhaps we get different killers, but killers these days RUTHLESSLY tunnel, and without provocation. Even if you aren’t being altruistic, or aren’t being toxic, they’ll tunnel you with no particular rhyme or reason in mind, and I’ve only seen this since the new changes to the perk meta. It’s overall an extremely unfun experience, and I’ve stopped playing the game for a few weeks as a result. Even if you know you’re skilled, getting tunneled immediately off of the hook leaves you feeling powerless, and I don’t want to run Off The Record to stop it, because they’d probably still tunnel anyways, and even if they didn’t, I don’t want to HAVE to run OTR just because Killers want to cheese their way to a 4K.

But hey, those are just my thoughts based on personal experience. I’m sure many people here would disagree, and that’s a-okay.

  6. I literally laughed out loud in the first frame of the “power meta” section when the comment from Barney ended with “almost all of the good perks are f2p” 😂😂😂 what game is he playing??

  7. I have a very controvercial idea for meta in dbd but it requires adepting from both side just hear me out and pls leave in the comments below . Imagine if killers have 2 required perks from their kit ecample clown must run 2 of his perks(pop and bamboozle or chlore) and give varity to 2 ather perks from killer it would force killer to make tactics how to use his own perks as best as it can that would trigger ppl to think more tactics but survivor should be a nerfed more and then imagine playing pyramid head with trail of torment and trying to bring best possible combos for it it would make killers think more about builds not runn8ng the same perks all the time plus i now this would be a big hit on killers but i think addons should be the main source of power and i think i should be like that addons usually buff killers base kit to make him more efficient . Beacause pers as we all now are not the best balanced sources of power either they are op or usless . But survivors should be nerfed a lot for thus to work . I now its wierd but i think that something like this would be more fun for both sides . We mus encorage ppl to use their resources better instead of bringing only op stuff and win every match i now its hard to implement but i think this should be considerd . Pls answer me in comments i want to hear ur opinions ty for hearing this i now its long one.

  8. The biggest thing I agree with is the absolute hatred of Eruption's incapacitated effect

I couldn't care less if it took half of the gen progress, revealed my aura for 20 seconds, and exposed me until I did 3 triple backflips in the basement (overly exaggerated example, but still)

but forcing me to sit around and be unable to play for 20 seconds is just miserable. The perk is literally "You have to go in timeout for 20 seconds, you dont get to play" and it just sucks

  9. I feel if the devs added more variety to gameplay like additional types of skillchecks or objectives perks would become a lot less unfair because they’d have to be divided amongst more tasks. There’s only a handful of actions killers and survivors can do in game so the amount of differences in perks is limited. Once totems were added to the game look at how many new kinds of perks were added.

  10. I got to say wrong. Nurse has not always been the best pick. Old Spirit pre all her nerfs.

Old Spirit before they nerfed half the perks with her and when she had no directional or audio queue as to when she was phasing.
50/50 if she stopped moving that it was mind game or actual phasing.
It took no skill or experience to get a 4k with her and she made Nurse look weak.
To add insult to injury you had the old Undying Ruin meta that made even the weakest killer strong so long as they kept patrolling.
Old Spirit was one of the few times in DBD history where more people were playing killer than survivors consistently. All because no one wanted to play against Spirit and getting BP with her was braindead easy.

Nurse for years, as well as to this day, still has blink bugs that ranged from blinks not going to where she aimed, to getting stuck in invisible objects, to simply getting her stuck in the animation and unable to play or do anything other than steer forward into a wall.

  11. Eruption is just the killer version of Dead hard. Both could be completely countered by "Wait it out", but why should either side have to wait to keep doing their objective? Likewise, both give a huge boost to the other side when it works, leaving the victim of the perk left looking dumb for doing the one thing they are supposed to do. The only real difference is that Eruption requires you to actually do something (two things really, being kicking a gen AND then downing a surv), when Dead Hard is just a free moment of invulnerability for getting injured. It really just feels like survs hate being on the other side of this equation for once, while not even understanding this is the case.

  12. Nerf stbfl, pain res, eruption and cob.
Nerf dh, prove, windows and coh.

Nerf/debuff these perks slightly-rework and this current meta will be more bearable for both sides. Imo cob is fine but paired with other strong gen perks like pain res or eruption, it becomes destructive on spirit, nurse and blight especially.

Almost every stbfl user tunnels/camps hooks. The perk is a problem.

  13. I honestly think the best suggestion was the shrine bonus one. It give ppl incentive to use a variety of perks and if the wanted they could buff nerd or get experimental with the shrine perks to test stuff out before beta

  14. I think I cool idea for the shrine, would be that it fills itself with 1 page worths of random perks for both sides and those are the only perks you can use that week, so sometimes killers will have stronger perks than survivors and vice versa but you know that it will change the next week, so it’s refreshing and interesting bc u never know what to expect out of your games

  15. Remove DH and Eruption, and we’ll see that favorable 6.1 meta pop up again. Don’t even bother reworking those perks, deleting them and their entire idea is better for the game.

  16. Not exactly meta defining, but I just thought of an idea where where flashlights could have more charges overall, and additionally could decrease the time for entity blockers of all kinds, any thoughts?

  17. I love the shrine of secrets idea. It's absolutely brilliant because it'll let players decide if the perk changes are good or not, instead of BHVR. And a shorter timespan of changes would lower the over dependence on a "merta".

  18. I for one would like to see alternative game play or objectives. Some like what was done in the last Halloween Event, where we gathered void energy. In this case, we would gain "entity favors" which could be a progress bar, obtained by badge / blood points objectives. Every time the bar goes to 100% a favor is gained. Just like void energy, there may be a limit we can carry, before we "worship" the entity. However, every favor gained, makes the next one take more energy.

This idea of entity favors may work as a secondary objective, and it may benefit from luck, with a chance to get extra favors; and any burst that also gives you blood points.

Entity favors may be used for a variety of things that would change the game in some way. Such as a permanent removal of hooks or generators, or spawning new ones; spawning or closing the hatch or blocking/unblocking some one exit gate; summoning a treasure chest with rare items, or get new add-ons for killers; spawning new totems, or reseting perks that would normally be used once per game.

I don't know, the idea is give something to work for, and give interesting results to use. The meta may turn around grinding this favor, and what favors are the most effective ones. Yet, since the favors could be lost, there would be a limit, and you to offer it; it wouldn't be an instant thing. Rather, something different to contribute, that could make players win in a different way.

  19. i just want to see all gen related perks get tuned down heavily. working on the same gen for 3 minutes and still not having finished it is awful and having a gen pop in 25 seconds as killer is also awful. i’d love to see a time where the outcome of dbd matches is determined by skill and actually outplaying your opponent rather than out-perking them.

  20. I might get some Flame for this, but imo dbd needs a core Update and not just New perks and perk changes. Survivors need another Objective, one thats not as important As Gens, but still important enough to not ignore.
My Idea is to rework pallets. Instead of all the pallets spawning into the trial at the beggining, only a handful would appear by default. The rest need to be crafted and perhaps placed by survivors. They would either need to craft pallets at where they want to Place it, or they would need to find some sort of station and then drag the palet there. If they get hit, then they drop the palet + While carrying/Dragging a Palet, they Make a lot of noises and they become hindered. Unplaced pallets that are laying on the ground, could be destroyed by the killer. Another change I had in Mind with this Update is Palet Variety, instead of having the same Pallets everywhere, there would be Pallets with different sizes and density. Default pallets would still remain at "Fair loops", on unsafe Loops Bigger pallets would spawn, they Take slightly longer to pull down by survivors, but they also stun the killer for longer and Take more time to Break. On the other hand, on loops that are "too safe" or "God Pallets" would be replaced by tinier pallets that would have the opposite effect, they can be pulled down faster, but they stun for less time + Break faster. Survivors would only be able to craft and carry Small and Medium Pallets.
Idk If I Said something good or Something stupid, but its an Idea I came Up with while working with Pallets IRL.

  21. BBQ without bonus BPs and “Circle of healing” was the death of DBD variety. Now you can’t split pressure and have no incentive in chasing multiple players. You will need to slow the game by getting downs, so most of the casuals decided to camp/tunnel, since hooking everyone gives no benefit

  22. I used eruption before it was such a big deal. I always thought it was a decent perk but I stopped using it for what is now my regular build. I don't plan on using it again tho cuz I know everyone is gonna shit on me for using it.

  23. I liked the bullshit meta.
Everything was bullshit, killers had bullshit, survivors had bullshit. Stuff that was fun to use, or strong to use, or both.
Spirit had og prayer beads, hunttress had 3 iri hatchets, freddy had chains, nurse had all blinks, PH could shut down loops, hillbilly had insta saw/no overheat, etc but survivors had 4 ds, 4 dead hards, insta heals, old bt, old balanced landing, etc.
Old moris, old maps, old everything.

  24. i feel the gen kicking meta lets sloppy killers win more games as all you need are the perks and a worked on gen, that said prolonging the game so that you can chase each of the survivors(sometimes you get a ninja) is healthy enough as everyone gets a turn with a chase. i tend to play killer more and i run the gen kicking perks as if its slipping on a glove(this is my first time playing the game but i play in gold not sure the mmr as you cant see it without datamining or asking someone to) so as someone fresh and does watch people play the game i naturally found the meta without someone pointing at the perks. but when i play as survivor i dont see the gen kicking meta builds(or i dont recognize the perks) so what im wondering is it a "high" mmr problem?

  25. You clearly don't play high level. You missed majority of the mind games in this showcase. Dead Hard needs to be changed outright. Having a 3rd health state multiple times a match spread across 4 players is absolute lunacy. Eruption can be countered, it's called SWF. A teammate can make a call out before getting hit down. Get the fuck out of here with dumb shit(nothing a survivor can do).

  26. I think the problem are gens. Why people want a chase meta? Because it's BORING to do gens .I think while you're make the gen you should have constant QTEs evidently QTe will be easier and if you miss one it just doesn't increase the progression of the gen and you have to miss a lot to the killer to see it and to loose progress(it will also buff stealth killer because survivor need to stay focus on the gen Hello Myers) and in the killer side a perk that make if you're in chase it's more long to do gen .

  27. Chase meta def sounds like a survivor idea. Someone who likes looping the killer and wasting time
Power meta is unhealthy for both sides, DS/Unbreakable and killer slowdown which goes too much

Variety meta is the best meta. I play that way. I reject exhaustion perks, I embrace Blood Pact value. Same with my killers, I use 1-2 slowdown at max and its not even meta slowdown
