I only like the comp 1v1 side of things. Since the most fun part of DBD is chase lol.
I like comp because it shows how weak killers usually really are. It's a good place ti what needs buffs
What if you had 2 teams of 1 killer and 4 survivors working against each other to complete generators that would power team specific gates and block other survivors allowing their killer to get downs easier.
So what about smash you know thats a party game right? The game series that has had dedicated competitive players since melee dont know why you keep throwing around that term like it means anything and why you keep referring to the "asymmetrical horror game" like theres some standard when dbd basically created the genre so the standard would be dbd meaning comp is fine also it doesnt affect you dont know why you have such strong feelings about it if you dont like it dont interact with it
DBD should have a ranked mode
At its core, dead by daylight is an experience, until you play to win. Then it turns into a contest for who is the most toxic person in the trial
I used to play bf4 in the private server scene. I guess that is the equivalent to the dbd comp scene. Even that game never had an esports scene but their was community hosted tournaments all the time. I see the appeal in it and it was hella fun! But its also pointless as you will never be sponsored or get any decent money from it.
Every comp dbd video ive seen ( which is nor many ) is of trapper getting looped for atleast 5 minutes😂

I think comp dbd being more fun then regular DBD for people is enough and that alone dont make it pointless

comp dbd also boils down more to skill vs skill rather then whoever runs the strongest meta loadouts, I dont think that really makes it a more watered down version of DBD. People just wanna play with others that are on similar skill level to them. It can get boring really fast stomping lobbies after lobbies, sbmm is non-existent, MMR is all over the place, no matter how high you are you can still go against complete clueless players. Thats why we see so many of these challenges, perkless winstreaks, copycat streak, impossible streaks, win streaks in general
barley anyone if anyone at all really plays comp DBD for money or fame, but some few players in the community did actually manage to become successful content creators cause of it doing collabs and showcase matches with major CCs

At the minimum, other games give you cosmetics if you play competitively. You can't even get that in DbD.
