Ppl aren't coming back because the devs ARE RUINING THE GAME. They murder handfuls of perks in one patch, murdering whole builds because of it. Why are ppl using other perks and builds? Cause they have to, cause nothing is really that good anymore. They take Moris almost completely out of the game, ruin strategies that could've won a game, cripple perks and build synergies. I'm ready for daylight with this game, after playing for almost 6 years straight, I'm done with this Friday the 13th quality of game
I was solely a solo queue player and I had to stop lol. Most games were horrible. No reason to play a game for entertainment if it's no longer fun. I miss dbd, but not this version of it.
I'm a billy main, I can barely play the game on my main killer anymore. I only hop on for occasional games now. Behaviour keeps making maps that screw over my mans.
Scott your totally right about solo q players being forgotten since I was one of the solo q players that did leave way before the meta switch up. I think that the meta change is great, glad the devs made it killer sided on this recent patch however, the way the devs balanced this recent patch to me was based off of swf. I dont like playing swf since I would rather have a challenge every match. But playing solo q has been a nightmare for so long and I thought that the devs would not give a shit about us at any time of this games life cycle. I want to come back and play and try to get wins, but with solo q not being addressed by the devs themselves makes me not want to come back. Ive always told myself that if I were to come back to dbd, the devs would have to improve the solo q experience. I would really like sbmm to go away if I were to play solo as I dont want to suffer because of a three man swf is in my lobby. I would love to see what the devs are hopefully planning to do to the solo q experience. It may take me some time to trust the devs but I think if they do a "pretty good job", I would return. Great video scott your an absolute legend cutie ❤
It doesn't seem economic to jump back into a game 12-13 dlcs deep when it has a history of powercreep. I know there's ways to get paid perks through rng, but if you miss out you may just be sol for a while.
Edit: I played a ton back in the day, but would currently be missing over 70% of the dlcs l x.x
What if survivors could get an extra perk slot for intel perks only for each player not in their swf? Like, a solo survivor could get seven perk slots, but 3 could only be used for stuff like kindred, empathy, wiretap, etc. A duo could get two extra slots, or a trio could get 1 extra slot. There's probably a reason why this is a terrible idea, but maybe it has a little merit?
Because the game went from party game to sweatfest. I actually blame tierlists, best map here, best perk there bullshit tbh, noone wants to use off-meta stuff because of that shit
Quite frankly, the only "SoloQ patch" that they could possibly implement without like, giving a slight buff if a player is detected as SoloQ, is to somehow make proximity chat a thing.
Granted, a lot of Killer players will re-leave because no-win scenarios will multiply (ESPECIALLY with the coming Basekit Unbreakable/Finisher "update" which will likely shoot the kneecaps of the playerbase) but it would help SoloQ to communicate and, since it would be proximity-based and could be able to be toggled off and on for both sides to prevent comms toxicity against the Killer and between teammates if they want, it would stay semi-fair since Survivors would have to group up to strategize unless they want the Killer to possibly hear them. Hell honestly it could even be used to update some perks. For example Stridor would make the Killer able to hear Survivors from a massive distance and Wiretap could make the Survivor who used it able to talk (one-way) regardless of distance until the Killer smashed it/it runs out of juice like if they were monitoring it.
Hell, they could even use totems to influence comms: in a 50 meters-large sphere Hex totems would create some sort of disruption between Survivor comms and a Boon totem would reduce a Killer's hearing range in it's 24-meters bubble (however the hearing side-effect would only work on the first blessing). They could also simply create Hex and Boon totem perks associated with comms or perception-related effects.
If a game like Friday the 13th which was as low-quality and polish as you can get, has a functionning proximity chat then surely a multi-million company possessing several licenses can do it?
On a side-note, SoloQ players should think that unless you're a content creator then your own SWF team will be made out of people that you send friend requests to or vice-versa, it's rare to start with your own crew. When I started playing more Survivor I was always SoloQ (which is the whole reason my builds are mostly centered around team buffs/healing instead of escape/looping the Killer) but over time I played with various other SoloQ players (and a few streamers because honestly I'm not sure I can manage to play 5 games in a row without a streamer/Youtuber in it even if they are not live at the moment) and I joined a small group of players who occasionally team-up when they are online, we're not pros by any means and I still play SoloQ more often then not but it took some time. I rarely see other players sending friend invites unless they play with/against a streamer or someone with like Prestige 15+.
TLDR; nearly every SWF teams is made out of former SoloQ players and with a little patience then any SoloQ player can eventually join or create a small squad.
As a Killer Main (meaning I primarily play Killer but also frequently dip into Survivor), they've made s ton of changes to help balance the game, but they still aren't tackling the main issue: This game isn't fun.
I have played it off and on since release and that has never changed. See, all fun you get out of this game is catharsis and that doesn't always pay off. The fundamental issue is that Behavior wants this to be some kind of mechanically in depth COMPETITIVE game rather than just a game anyone can dip into, chill for a match or two, and leave. Thing is, if you want the game to be stressful, it should be structured like a horror game. If you want the game to be fun, then the mechanics should be fun to play with.
DBD does neither of those things. Survivors only seem to have fun when they are bullying the Killer and the Killer only seems to have fun when they stuff bully tactics Survivors throw at them. The actual gameplay loop of doing Gens and methodically hooking every Survivor is actually really friggin' boring and the Devs think by throwing more Skillchecks at you that it makes it more fun. It doesn't.
And the real problem, in my opinion, is that they're trying to make the game "balanced" for both sides. Good, right? No… This is a horror themed game with more horror IP's than any other and it DOES NOT CAPITALIZE on that advantage. Killers are deliberately kept weak and Survivors struggle for something engaging to do. See, because they have the reliable 4-6 hit and 2-3 hook system, there us always a cushion. The fear for the Killer, the thing that actually makes the game immersive for a player, is not there. So doing Gens or Totems or any of these other time consuming tasks doesn't have any weight or tension to it. It doesn't FEEL like you're taking risks. That's why people deliberately fling themselves at the Killer to harass them. For as annoying as it is, it's all Survivors GOT. And the Killers meanwhile don't feel like there is any sort of power to their role, which is the ONLY appeal to the role to begin with. I mean what is the actual point of playing The Nemesis, a brutal killing machine who can wield complex weaponry like rocket launchers and can burst through brick walls like plaster and runs really fast, IF all they actually give you to work with is a weak tentacle slap and Survivors stand around you teabagging and clicking flashlights? There's no power fantasy there, there's no fun. You aren't feeling like the Nemesis. You're feeling like a babysitter reigning in four naughty children. And once again, countering bullying is about the only actual enjoyment you can get out of that role because looping IS NOT fun, stomping gens and pallets, vaulting windows, going in circles just to hit someone once IS NOT fun. It is sheerly cathartic payoff if you manage to stick it to people.
And the Devs have been aware of this for years, meaning Dead by Daylight deliberately had its core design ENCOURAGE toxic, bitter antagonism on both sides. They know (because of how they built this game) if they fixed that, the game would have NOTHING.
DBD is the definition of "keeping the status quo humming along".
Im suffering from manic depression and im just not into strangers at all. I spent all my time in dbd playing solo surv or killer. I feel like playing killer even with the recent changes puts alot of stress on my while playing survivor solo tends to be rather disappointing as me and the team hence no communication run into avoidable stuff all the time. Overall i levitate from playing dbd to watching streamers play dbd for me instead because i do like it. Also always tryna get friends im familiar with to play because at one point in my life i want to hit rank 1 ( never passed 3 because im bad and whenever im doing fine, qmates arent). Might give it another go when the Antislug drops even tho the annoying ‚leave everyone on thr ground to bleed out‘ never was a problem as its a 1 in 500 for me.
I feel like behaviour is killing their own game. People don't wanna play it when you go out of your way to make the game completely different. The game is horribly balanced, and people who knew it left. Fixing your bugs too little too late is killing your game. Plus the not having dedicated servers for the game…. Which allows a lot of cheating… Why you people want to play a game that is riddled with cheaters and hackers?
I'll admit. I don't play very much anymore because all these changes, basically make it hell to play solo survivor. I load in, and the killers are incentivized to tunnel and camp the first person they see because there's no penalty for it, so most games are just a view of the killer from the hook. That's it. Then there's them making it nearly impossible to run some builds by removing information granting perks or altering them to the point where they're not nearly as useful as before. Stealth, for example, is mostly out. And for all the tunneling, all the camping, and everything else, you get nothing for it. It's not fun.
I get that the changes were needed to kinda ease back the players focusing on the meta, but not everyone is playing the meta. I'm damn sure not good enough at the game to escape while looping the killer for 12 minutes straight and teabagging at every window. I just play for fun. And at this point, it's hard to have fun when you don't even get to play. And most of these nerfs haven't affected the players that were doing all of that stuff anyway. Lot of people I know who used to play have quit too, both console and PC players. It's just not fun, and I don't want to just waste my time forcing myself to deal with 20 tunneled games to experience ONE halfway normal game.
Personally I’ve been having way more fun as a soloQ survivor lately because the queue time’s become so short.
Before it could be really frustrating to have a game where someone gives up, or the killer just tunnels you out or slugs, because you then had a long wait time for the next game.
Now, I extremely rarely have queue times longer than a minute, so it’s much less annoying to have a bad game, as before you know it you’re in the next one.
I feel it is because they buffed killers so much in one go that a good chunk of survivors(solo and SWF) have quit/taken a break.
You can say the meta shake up was good and all that but nothing really feels like it changed. Its killers mainly stacking slowdown perks and mby one tracking and survivors mainly stacking anti tunnel stuff and pushing gen perks. It really feels like at times we swapped one set of icons in the corner for others.
i feel sad playing this game, cuz how frustrating solo q became after meta shaking, before i could play solo with obviously strong perks to help me and always have a chance to escape, also i liked old mmr system, i had hard and interesting matches and i was sure that my teammates not a dogs but now solo q just dead for me, and killers are just to easy( So i retired, dbd isn't fun for me anymore I focus more on my university and rarely watch your dbd videos and still i don't feel old sense of fun from dbd (((((
I started playing a couple months ago as a killer main and I honestly quit cause of the grind. I have some sweet perks and at the very least interestingly usable perks (prestiging myers pre patch was an amazing idea because STBFL obvs but also Dying Light and PWYF being fun at least) but if I want to make some funky interesting synergistic builds I need to prestige like three separate characters for one of their perks each, and then I need to farm the blood web on whoever I want the build on SUPER hard. So basically I have to play the game a shit ton with the same solid but boring perks in order to unlock tools that MIGHT make the game fun again. Idk, since I’ve never been able to put them together before!
For me, I think they need to redo the elo. As was shown a couple months ago when people got into the game files, they found what looks like the elo ranking system. I shouldn't be playing with Pro players because I have a 1604 ELO and they got 2300. big difference when max is 3000.
I moved on to other games, but I like to keep up with the content creators for dbd cause they're fun. For me, once I hit a certain level of play the game just wasn't fun anymore (I played killer mainly). I liked to run whatever build I thought about in the moment on whatever killer I felt like at the time, going from playing demo to myers to blight in three games in a row, that sort of thing. But at a certain point (around when mmr became a thing) I just couldn't win playing any killers that weren't S or A tier killers without playing hardcore. That just wasn't fun to me, so I left and any time I try to come back I ran into the same problem and just didn't keep playing.
As an OG player from 2017 launch release on what stopped me from playing back in 2020 due to tome challenges ruining the solo que survivor experience and the ruin nerf that ruined the killer experience for me (pun intended) 😅.
I think there will be a big rise in players after they drop the base kit unbreakable patch allowing every downed survivor to get up within 22.5 seconds with perk equipped or 45 seconds without perk equip bcuz then solo que survivors will have a higher chance of escaping the trial. I think there is probably gonna be a drop in killer mains due to that and possibly convert some of them into survivors causing the que times to become shorter than what it is now.
I have no interest of returning to DBD but I do enjoy watching videos and hearing the game’s changes that’s been taking place year after year.
I think there is a lot to be said about playing a game for fun and not having to worry about anything too. With the news coming out that the IP leaks issue was basically just swept under the rug and that it is still an issue now will put a lot of people off coming back, along with all the hackers that there has been an influx of. Nobody wants to have to pay for a VPN to play a game at a slower speed to be completely safe. People want to have fun playing games, and whilst i know that the DDOS attacks and swatting happen primarily to streamers, It will put a lot of people off playing if theres a possibility it could happen to them.
People are sick of getting stomped by pig every match. Until they give her the proper treatment and just make her a fifth survivor, people aren't going to come back.
Solo Survivor is just not fun right now with the balance shifting more notably towards Killers. It can be fun with friends, but there doesn't seem to be much incentive to actually play a Survivor alone. The bloodpoint bonus is nice and all that, but it's not enough incentive to go through the painful slog of trying to play solo.
This patch shook things up for killers. Not worrying about "the same 4 perks" but then you look at the survivor pov. Every game is a killer with pain res, call of brine, eruption, overcharge. And then they just camp and tunnel because they can get away with it. It's incredibly boring. There has never been less variety from the survivor pov
I honestly kinda just left after that whole Pinhead NFT situation and never felt like coming back. Then, recently DBD's been more enjoyable from a distance for me ever since quitting. I prefer to watch other people playing, over playing it myself.
Gonna give my honest opinion here, I have 3000 hours in dbd and haven't played in over a month or so. I might come back eventually, however I think that Dbd is so unfun right now even with the meta shake up. The reason I stopped is mainly because I think it's all about who brings the stronger shit to a trial and what map you get + RNG. Not to mention all the Cheaters that I'm getting.
If I win matches as killer I win at 4-5 gens most of the time and if a game gets really close or even lose, it's always BNP, full meta, purple medkits, styptic, obvious swfs, etc.
The difference between playing clown on mothers dwelling and playing nurse on midwich is just so insanely high, just as an example to prove my point.
Solo q is insufferable. There's also not really an incentive to play anymore which mainly came with the perk changes that are great by the way, but now I've got all the perks on every character and I've got more items and offering that I could ever use.
Still one of my favourite games but there's just really nothing going on anymore that draws me back
no that's not it, i don't even have to watch the video to know the problem, it has nothing to do with the game itself and the stats reflect that, it's survivor mentality purely, by looking at the stats you see a ton of players join at the start of the chapter and around 3 weeks later player numbers go back to it's usual number, the mass of players that come at the start of chapters are usually returning players wanting to try something new but once realising that not only gameplay wise it's similar but most importantly, playing both sides (killer or survivor) is just miserable because if you're playing killer you're most likely gonna come across the same builds or players just being extremely toxic or most likely both, (i play both killer and survivor) when i last played dbd i was playing against a hillbilly who only had tier 1 tinkerer's and at the end of the match the prestige 18 ash said "gg ez trash, uninstall" just because he won while on the other side when playing survivor it's gotten to a point where most solo queue teammates just instantly kill themselves on first hook or sandbag or bring the killer towards me, it's hard to enjoy something when a majority of a playerbase is sabotaging that enjoyment. you can disagree with me as much as you want and especially the thing i've noticed with scott jund's videos are that there's always a problem and for every problem there's a solution but this isn't the case, as a game developer you are limited to what the game does, you can't change the people, and if the counterargument is brought up of "if this game was as toxic as you say then why isn't it dead?" you've basically answered the question yourself, dead by daylight IS dying although it may not seem like it join a match and you'll always have at least one survivor who is new to the game (this is excluding 4 man groups) the only reason why this game isn't fully dead is because the constant flow of new players balances that out, look at league of legends, a game which i can say is equally toxic but the reason why their player base is much larger and still expanding is because of ease of access and the game itself, league is entirely free, you can pay for cosmetics but there's no beneficial effect for spending money, because it's free a larger audience can be reached unlike dbd which still asks for money even after paying for the game, second is gameplay, dead by daylight is fun in the same way call of duty is fun, they both follow an arcade design (not like a literal arcade game) meaning shorter match times and although can be competitive, follow more of a play as you want style this makes them easy to pick up and put down, league is the opposite it's heavily competitive with longer match times and smaller things can have a much larger impact, because of this, more competitive games like league or dota are much more addictive than a game like dbd, being toxic in a game like league is basically common courtesy at this point, you know the game is toxic and you just become used to it, in a competitive game skill is key, in dbd if you're playing sadako against the best 4 man swf in the game, it doesn't matter how skillful you are the chances of you winning are next to impossible
TLDR: there's nothing wrong with the game, it's the community, right now the game is in a very good state but players aren't, this is a problem that bhvr cannot fix since this isn't something they can control
I think they left the killer situation the same for too long, and people like myself who have come back just can't get into the game like they were before. Killer buffs are a joke, but it's a start. On top that there are the map issues and cheating.
I can only comment on my experience, but out of about 6 friends who played for 2k-4k hours each, everyone quit months ago, even before the meta change mostly because of frustration of playstyles. Mates would always get sick of being hard tunneled or facecamped at the first hook (not every game, but a significant amount of times every evening). Im not arguing for or against these playstyles, just saying these were the reasons everyone quit playing each evening and then eventually quit the game overall.
I never had a friend rage quit or quit the game because of any perks or maps or because of what killer it was, or just because they lost the game, as long as it involved interaction it was fun regardless of outcome.
I stopped playing since Elden Ring came out and returned with patch 6.1.0. I was expecting huge changes while playing killer. It's the exact same thing but against other perks. I am either matched against A) Tournament Tier Groups or B) Extremely experienced solo players. In either case the game goes like this: Find a survivor > chase him to the first pallet > break the pallet > chase him to the other pallet > go for someone else > chase him to the next pallet > chase him to the next god-tier window > go for somenone else > pallet > window > window > pallet > pallet > pallet > game ends. Plus I have to wait for like eight minutes on the lobby. The former meta perks were just a symptom of a bigger problem. It doesn't matter what perks are on the meta or which killers are stronger. Experienced survivors will abuse every single design problem in the game and map design is the bigger one.
Ppl aren't coming back because the devs ARE RUINING THE GAME. They murder handfuls of perks in one patch, murdering whole builds because of it. Why are ppl using other perks and builds?
It really feels like at times we swapped one set of icons in the corner for others.
i feel sad playing this game, cuz how frustrating solo q became after meta shaking, before i could play solo with obviously strong perks to help me and always have a chance to escape, also i liked old mmr system, i had hard and interesting matches and i was sure that my teammates not a dogs but now solo q just dead for me, and killers are just to easy(
So i retired, dbd isn't fun for me anymore
I focus more on my university and rarely watch your dbd videos and still i don't feel old sense of fun from dbd (((((
I started playing a couple months ago as a killer main and I honestly quit cause of the grind.
I’m still waiting on cross progression
It’s still 2-4 dead hards everygame turns out it’s even better than before in the hands of decent players
As a survivor for me, it’s because my favorite perks have been nerfed and gameplay mechanics for me have been weakened and the game isn’t fun anymore.
because every killer plays the same way and wesker is boring as fuck
Solo Survivor is just not fun right now with the balance shifting more notably towards Killers. It can be fun with friends, but there doesn't seem to be much incentive to actually play a Survivor alone. The bloodpoint bonus is nice and all that, but it's not enough incentive to go through the painful slog of trying to play solo.
Because wesker
This patch shook things up for killers. Not worrying about "the same 4 perks" but then you look at the survivor pov. Every game is a killer with pain res, call of brine, eruption, overcharge. And then they just camp and tunnel because they can get away with it. It's incredibly boring. There has never been less variety from the survivor pov
I honestly kinda just left after that whole Pinhead NFT situation and never felt like coming back.
Then, recently DBD's been more enjoyable from a distance for me ever since quitting. I prefer to watch other people playing, over playing it myself.
People can only be burned so many times before they decide to put out the fire for good.
Still one of my favourite games but there's just really nothing going on anymore that draws me back
Yeah, Unbreakable basekit is going to bring in a lot of killers.
no that's not it, i don't even have to watch the video to know the problem, it has nothing to do with the game itself and the stats reflect that, it's survivor mentality purely, by looking at the stats you see a ton of players join at the start of the chapter and around 3 weeks later player numbers go back to it's usual number, the mass of players that come at the start of chapters are usually returning players wanting to try something new but once realising that not only gameplay wise it's similar but most importantly, playing both sides (killer or survivor) is just miserable because if you're playing killer you're most likely gonna come across the same builds or players just being extremely toxic or most likely both, (i play both killer and survivor) when i last played dbd i was playing against a hillbilly who only had tier 1 tinkerer's and at the end of the match the prestige 18 ash said "gg ez trash, uninstall" just because he won while on the other side when playing survivor it's gotten to a point where most solo queue teammates just instantly kill themselves on first hook or sandbag or bring the killer towards me, it's hard to enjoy something when a majority of a playerbase is sabotaging that enjoyment. you can disagree with me as much as you want and especially the thing i've noticed with scott jund's videos are that there's always a problem and for every problem there's a solution but this isn't the case, as a game developer you are limited to what the game does, you can't change the people, and if the counterargument is brought up of "if this game was as toxic as you say then why isn't it dead?" you've basically answered the question yourself, dead by daylight IS dying although it may not seem like it join a match and you'll always have at least one survivor who is new to the game (this is excluding 4 man groups) the only reason why this game isn't fully dead is because the constant flow of new players balances that out, look at league of legends, a game which i can say is equally toxic but the reason why their player base is much larger and still expanding is because of ease of access and the game itself, league is entirely free, you can pay for cosmetics but there's no beneficial effect for spending money, because it's free a larger audience can be reached unlike dbd which still asks for money even after paying for the game, second is gameplay, dead by daylight is fun in the same way call of duty is fun, they both follow an arcade design (not like a literal arcade game) meaning shorter match times and although can be competitive, follow more of a play as you want style this makes them easy to pick up and put down, league is the opposite it's heavily competitive with longer match times and smaller things can have a much larger impact, because of this, more competitive games like league or dota are much more addictive than a game like dbd, being toxic in a game like league is basically common courtesy at this point, you know the game is toxic and you just become used to it, in a competitive game skill is key, in dbd if you're playing sadako against the best 4 man swf in the game, it doesn't matter how skillful you are the chances of you winning are next to impossible
TLDR: there's nothing wrong with the game, it's the community, right now the game is in a very good state but players aren't, this is a problem that bhvr cannot fix since this isn't something they can control
What i noticed recently, that i meet much more cross platform players, so probably the amount of non-Steam users is rising more.
Base kit kindred for survivor
I think they left the killer situation the same for too long, and people like myself who have come back just can't get into the game like they were before. Killer buffs are a joke, but it's a start. On top that there are the map issues and cheating.
Because the game is trash, the community is trash, dbd "content" creators are trash and the dlc are trash. Simple as that
Mainly a solo que survivor… I've never had such long wait times for killers to join a lobby. OR, they join and then leave.
Thanks for explaining why this is happening, seriously, it's been weird (for me, bc I've only played for a few months) 👍
If you're not playing killer, it's boring af/frustrating, and killer queues are dire. Many of us just have no desire to play.
