  1. At this point I have enough hours in the game that I can't call myself a beginner anymore but I still struggle a lot sometimes. I really just try to play my own fun way, I generally don't tunnel, I'll often even ignore an easy down on the person I last hooked. My biggest problem is I only play in short bursts and so never really got good at mind gaming, knowing the tiles and the right thing to do and when. I started as killer main, now I play a lot of survivor too. I mostly just go for whatever has the BP incentive now tbh. I try to play too nice, and also sometimes just get an awful map vs a really good team I just lose motivation and turn the game off. I probably only play a couple games a day or every other day now.

  2. Hi OTZ, I have a genuine question about MMR.

Back about a year and half ago when MMR officially released, everyone HATED IT because it was super strict. Extremely good survivors would always have medkits, meta perks, and play against Nurse, blight and spirit mainly. It was unfun for the top MMR because of the lack of variety to be there in the first place.

However NOW I literally see everyone complaining about MMR because they lowered the soft cap so there's a wide variety of people there. Mainly anyone who knows how to play the game at its core can pretty easily get there. So a lot of killers will get easy survivors, or sometimes strong survivor SWFs will get baby killers, and visa verse…

But, isn't this current MMR the same as the rank system DBD had a few years back? The only difference being your rank is now hidden, and a secret number between 800-3000 or something, and "Red Ranks" … and some purple ranks, are the soft 1600 cap or whatever it may be. It feels like we're back to the same matchmaking we used to be in a few years back, the only difference being it's now secret and hidden. Why is everyone always annoyed at this?

  3. When I read "beginner & intermediate killers"
I wasn't sure if you meant based on killer tier list, killer "difficulty" (as indicated in-game), or player skill level. Wasn't really expecting "a little of each."

Hardest part for me is still knowing when to commit to chase and when to leave. To be fair, I haven't been practicing, but it feels bad to leave someone right in front of you to go look for someone who might not be where you think.

Dunno why but in this video, all of the audio cues felt like they were louder than usual, and coming from different angles. A gen to your right sounds like it's behind you, and a vault to your left sounds like it's on your right.

Back when I was into Overwatch, watching pro players give breakdowns on newer/lower ranked players gameplay was actually some of my favorite content. It's one of the better ways to get examples of "here's what you shouldn't do and what you should do instead" for those odd situations, those situations where the best thing to do is different from the general guideline. Since you're already reviewing that content for some players (presumably on stream), what do you think about uploading a few of your favorite examples (assuming the player is up for it)?

  4. Sure, this is great and all for new players, but it’s not really what they need.

They need to get their ass kicked and toughen up a bit. They need to understand that this game isn’t always fair and that it’s tough. Once they understand that, they’ll be significantly less frustrated with it in general and will learn to have some fun for once.

It’s really THAT simple. Things take practice. Give yourself time.

  5. BHVR are very lucky to have you helping their game & its community so much.

You have helped me be a better killer from all the things I've learnt from you.

I actually run into the opposite problem allot of the time, where I destroy a team (eg: 5 gen them), so I will choose more obscure builds or just play more chilled.

Obviously I still get destroyed by survivors every now and then if they are a good team etc.

Thank you for all your help dude.

  6. Something that would be very helpful to add to these tutorial videos is text overlays at moments where you make certain decisions, like for instance moments where you chose to slug someone, or found two survivors and decided to chase a specific one, when a survivor makes a not-so-obvious mistake and how you exploited it, why you went to a certain part of the map at some point, etc. Killer and perk choices matter a lot, but I think the ability to make swift chase decisions can easily overturn a difficult match and turn it into a win.

    Brilliant video as always.

  7. I feel like I likely fit into the "intermediate" category. I've been playing the game for maybe 6 months which feels kinda long, but isn't that much in the scope of dbd players.

I main Sadako mostly because I love Ringu but realize that on top of still trying to learn the game, Sadako has a lot of downsides. I've definitely had times where I feel like I'm at such a disadvantage because of playing a certain killer, being paired with certain squads, items, perks, etc, etc but you have really helped me understand how to work around these shortcomings my best. I can't really change that as Sadako I'm often weak against these meta perks, good squads, and items but try and bring my own set of tricks and know that I can always improve.

I don't normally comment but thank you otz for helping me and to anyone else, I hope your journey's to becoming better at killer goes well!

  9. I have a feeling that a decent portion of killers who have more than a few hours and have played for a long time get beat because of just the current meta for survivors/map generation. You can’t win every game, but sometimes it is rigged against you. In most of my games now at least 1 BNP or syringe/styptic is expected in every match I play and map offerings are very common. Thankfully maps are being a balanced more and more which helps the weaker killers but strong items still carry teams against the weaker end of the killer line up. Hopefully the increased use of these items eventually gets addressed, but I would say if you’re struggling with that just know that you might need to bring stuff at the same level or just play a stronger killer to keep up with the current game state. I don’t really like that honestly, but with the average teams being much tougher to face I would say that in some cases you won’t win against a stacked team unless you play a bit nasty… Not Toxic. I’ve played survivor games where killers slug me for 3 mins just to taunt me and it’s honestly just sad, do that and survivors will be encouraged to play toxic too and you’ve just made the game worst for everyone.

  10. I also think this things in mmr or matches are on purpose because if all 4 survivors were like that claud it would be unplayable.
Edit: Because if you think about it there's always a weak spot on almost all teams

  11. i feel like not a lot of people care about brutal strength on weaker too much. it's honestly op on him bc you can catch up so fast to the survivors with your power after shredding through a pallet

  12. I've always recommended wraith when just starting, a great build with default killer perks is that wraith build, with nurses calling or noed, or any info perk like you said

  13. As a ghostface main, THANK YOU Otz, this is my favorite character because of the franchise, i have a tattoo of ghostface, like i am a GF buff! But I am terrible with him and it's became discouraging. This video simultaneously helps beginners but also steers me back on track for what I should be doing as the GF. My current build was nothing like this

  14. Is it acceptable to slug a bully squad? I couldn’t hook a single one because of boil over and sabotages but after I got them all down, I would’ve hooked them… but they all disconnected 🤷‍♂️😂

  15. So, a point that Otz didn't bring up in this video (but has likely brought up elsewhere) for new killers is that as a new/beginner player, every killer he mentioned requires you to spend more money in a game you just started playing. Nurse, Huntress, and Trapper are all starter killers, but for different reasons, aren't viable for starting players. This issue also applies to other starter killers though, you have to already be a certain level of skilled to be successful with them, and as a new player, that's just not likely.
I'm not saying "buff all base killers" but compared to most of the newer ones, some sensible reworks might be in order to get newer players more interested without having to spend additional money (since all the beginner killers he recommended, require you to pay more right off the start of playing the game).
I'll give, with how Nurse's "nerf" went, they may make Trapper worse somehow, but hey, we can dream right?

  16. While I appreciate the builds and concepts in general, Ghostface without enough knowledge will make people fall back on being 'Chaseface'. Wraith can perform at low and high levels with a chase playstyle, but with Ghostie you need to take advantage of the macro strategy as you showed with 2 injured people and a 99 stalk. Beginners might not understand the intricacies of that however, and fall back on chasing and not utilizing Ghosties power at all.
