DBD’s Biggest Problem – Every Match Feels The Same

Dead by Daylight’s biggest issue is one that every player has felt, one that was there back when it launched, and one that’s still here today: Repetitiveness.
I conducted a poll of players and here’s what they had to say about it.

  1. A funny modifier based on Dwight would actually work. 4 dwights as survivors and 1 bloody dwight as trickster. 🤣

Yes, modifiers are fun for about 72 hours. After 72 hours, you kinda get bored. If they would rotate every week, I wouldn't mind. They also need to boost rewards there.

  2. I think a big problem is many people run the same perks and run the game the same way
Some of my favorite moments of this game is discovering something new that I use over and over again until every else is sick of it lol
If you're not playing both sides and experimenting with new perks, I would try that first.

  3. So did you take a poll with people who haven't taken a break in over over 5000 hours? The simplicity is what keeps me coming back. Why change whats broke. go play a new game if that's what you need.

  4. I've been playing since 2020. BHVR needs to stop pumping out content that only feels more and more stale over time, and put some fucking effort into making their game enjoyable first, and functional and 'balanced' secondary. I've recently found myself missing even the early days of my experience with DBD bc the huge focus on 'balance' is boring af. I actually said "I miss old dead hard" the other day and did a genuine double-take as a killer main. Imo a huge thing they could do to improve the general gameplay experience is to, instead of nerfing strong perks, buff weak ones. Make everything OP and the matches become instantly more chaotic and non-sensical, and if everything is OP, everything is balanced. Killer has insane gen regression? Survivors have 6-second heals. Survivors have 4 second-chance perks? Killers have full chase build with stacking haste. Right now, every perk plays the same, every killer feels the same, every survivor is literally the same and it sucks.

  5. The burn out over exhaustion is absolutely a major problem, especially as a killer main.

I think it’s fair to say most survivors hate seeing regression perks & how strong they can be, & behavior has listened to them with balance changes over time.

Thats not to say all of those changes are bad. In fact, I think encouraging perk variety past gen regression would be the best thing this game could do. I personally like running aura perks the most. But there’s a major problem: at some point, you’ll end up playing every match where auras aren’t enough – you NEED regression perks.

Last night I played for a few hours, & while I won’t act like I don’t make mistakes in my games/chases, there were so many times where I knew I played the best I could with my power & perks, but it still wasn’t enough; every survivor got out alive, sometimes not even getting 8 hook stages.

It also doesn’t help that the perks & items I see most people use nowadays either make it impossible with only aura reading perks, or just straight up counter it in addition to speeding up gen progress. Gen speed perks, Toolboxes, BNP, Medkits, septic agent, dead hard (I could write a whole essay on why even current DH is an unhealthy perk for the game), flashlight/bang saves w/ background player speed that genuinely looks like speed hacks to anyone who hasn’t played before the perk’s buff, I can genuinely go on for so long. All of this is fine, but gen regression gets a kick in the sack so hard with both nerfs to perks & the new 8-event system to “incentivize variety” when a whole genre of killer perks AND add-ons can be countered by a SINGLE survivor perk (distortion)?

I’ve returned to the game 3 weeks ago after a year break, & I’m already considering leaving again. Especially with the return of Hawkins, which shows its age in the worst possible way, ESPECIALLY when you play as any killer added post nov 2021. Like you said the comments agreed on: it’s all just so exhausting.

  6. I have watched dbd content on and off for the past few years, I played 2018-2021. I played with my friends a ton and when they left dbd solo queue hit. The games state seems to be in a much better place but I do remember getting burnt out from repetitiveness. I still have a lot of love even if I might not play.

  7. When play as either side you might start with simple play and relax but when other side is too good and sweaty you start losing more and more. That make you start playing more sweaty and made other side play against you frust and have to be more sweaty. There a lot of thing players need to know to play example camping, it very easy to counter you can leave it there until almost dead and help or have two survivor rush to help and when one get hit other one rescue, but when come in actual match people don't want to wait just go rescue made them down and killer keep camping and slugging until die. In FPS game you don't really have compatitive much sometime if you so good at aim or lucky you could just shoot everyone and win, no plan no brain process just shoot.

Edit: And a lot of boring moment or unfun. Tombstone if you miss play just once you get kill immediately and no second chance. Or my game lately is killer slugging everyone on ground and at 3-5 gen that no way survivor would survive even they have secret perk going to pull of at that moment and it might because killer want to play very safe in case we have flip flop so he just leave survivor die without hook, it the most boring match.

  8. I agree all the way, but I almost think it's time to put our foot down. They have made two whole games now or in the process of (the cast. Of Frank stone) and hooked on you, and I don't see any good business decisions.

  9. DBD 2 should be a thing, because it would not only be a new game (even if it's a copy-paste), it would also mean it would be a new code, cleaner and modern, something one can work with (even players that wan a real custom game)

  10. sorry but if your feeling like every game is the same (for survivor mostly) then thats more on you than it is the game. there is so many perk combos and things especially to do with friends. yeah, if the onyl way you have fun is escaping, then your gonna be bored an miserable with this game. but if you just stop caring about the main objective and make friends to do stuff with this games, it still has so many possibilities to enjoy the game. and it has ups and downs with patches, but I really recomennd loosing the mindset of thinking xyz playstyle is toxic. you can not like something, but just remember some base things or new things that come from new updates. youll loose stuff, maybe stuff you even like, but you might also get something new and super fun

  11. i would say the biggest problem dbd has, is that its essentially, still an alpha or early access, they never really did a big cleanup of the code or make things simpler for them in the long run, so they just have so much non functional spaghetti to fix this one tiny issue, which then brings about future issues, instead of throwing the whole thing away and starting from the ground up, which they really should, they have to keep going because if they dont, they wont get any money, so they couldnt really do anything to help the general coding from the very start of the games inception, like yeah they have changed the color themes and animations of characters, perks, maps, powers, but these all constantly break because of how its made.

i remember once when my game just straight up died when i tried to dash onto the roof of toba landing with weskers power, or when i used deathslingers gun and it made survivors completely invisible, and that wasnt even on the ptb, that was on live servers, the point of my rambling is to say that they really need to fix how they think, and how they make the game because what they are doing rn isnt working

  12. I think when I left, the game was still fun it’s just that different games came along. I recently came back and all the new content is great but I noticed some niche changes such as techs and wonder why they changed it.

  13. Good and positive video, but it's not so simple I'm afraid.

Telling people to remember "it's just a game" is like telling someone with anxiety "not to worry".

The issue is that many associate fun with the feeling of satisfaction that they get from winning. Due to so much negative reinforcement from losing (GGEZ, teabag, hit on hook etc), players have been conditioned to win at any cost to avoid this bad feeling.

That's why often, even when players win they still feel stressed. It's such a complex issue and it can't be fixed with just a mindset change.

  14. A way I've had a lot of fun in the past few months is going on sites like nightlight and looking for the least used perks. Then trying to make a build around them. The variety you have is so much fun for me at least

love the positive thinking bud, a health update would be fantastic. but it's been 8 years. xD

  16. I've said this so many times.

    WE. NEED. A. HEALTH. CHAPTER.

Do the devs not realize that health chapters statistically improve concurrent player rates and new player retainment?

Even Apex, a game with a massive Studio funding it, has done not one, not two, but THREE seasons solely focused on improving the game.

This is industry standard now. Players are 1000% okay with not receiving brand new content for a few months in exchange for an overall better game that runs smoother, has better UI, better balancing, etc.

  17. There is plenty fun ways to play this game, if you always play with the same formula of course you will get bored.
Start using stealth perk more or try more niche ways to win, but of course when the meta perks are nerfed people start complaining. I don't think the issue is really the game sometimes.

Behavior ruined many playstyle like the keys and they didn't bother make it balanced, instead they ruin it completely by making only 1 survivor escape through it which reduce its use by alot. The amount of reduced options in this game will make so players will play the same in the majority, you won't see often the chad stealth users but instead a repetitive amount of build. But i can see that Behavior updates are lacking in QoL which is really frustrating because they could make the game experience better now.

  18. Didn't get to vote in the poll, but with each update I seem to take longe and longer breaks. This was my first year long break that I broke just to get the Oni Blood Moon outfit then haven't touched the game since because even taking the 5 hours to do the event was horrible to play killer as, only managed to barely get kills if I slugged or swapped to a meta build and used someone other than Chucky or Oni. Yes its a bit of a skill issue, but I cant really play the killers I enjoy, like legion, wraith or doctor, without the game thrusting me into a 4 man comp team that destroys me if I dont play perfectly just because they matched me against new players and i got the 4k.

And it is like you have stated in the video, I absolutely love watching streamers or youtubers play DBD and it makes me ant to hop on and play, but I just stop myself because I know that I'll have maybe 2 matches that are fun before I get thrown into a meta vs meta match that if I dont try my hardest to get a down, I maybe get 3 hits from the entire match

  19. The problem with new gamemodes as "Random Perks" is that it will get out of hand at the exact moment only like 10% of the playerbase is playing sweaty (Tunnel) to win. All survivors have random perks, so how big are your chances to get anti tunnel ? Low! same way around with killers "how can i as Trapper keep up with no gen slow down" so with time people will start to want "balance" in this mode and at this point it is to much work for the developers to handle.

  20. I don't like the mmr
the fact it only has one game mode

Devs focus more on skins than anything else for example the otz video called Ranting about the recent dev Q&A… | Dead by Daylight and as you mentioned fan says something simple and they say "maybe in a few years :)" like okay lol.

The biggest reason for me is how toxic the community is nearly every game had survivors t bag me especially when the exit gate is up they will wait the 110-130 seconds just for me to go there and get t bagged last second then say very nasty stuff in the end game chat and try to put stuff on my profile.

I feel the fan base has a survivor sided mindset when it comes to opinions far to often and i have played just as much for survivor as i have killer around.

when it comes to surviving against a killer with a team type of games i have had way more fun with vhs, friday the 13th and dragon ball the breakers as they have a lot more to do in those games.

When going from a community like dbd and then to something like final fantasy online the difference is massive.

I've always ranted how you can't turn down the screams people make when you hook them I always had to alt tab when hooking.

I feel sick when playing against the plague because I'm very bad with puke sounds.

Spaghetti code gives me no hope for how the game can advance like you mentioned and it was very annoying to always see an update of bug fixes come out for more bugs to be released, so I don't care for what they have to say for what bugs are fixed oh and always a decent chance a killer will straight up be kill switched.

when playing survivor solo queue vast majority of games would be people killing them selves on hook.

I know you mentioned try and have fun its sadly hard with how toxic most games feel and how every game feels the same honestly I did want the game to succeed in the past but now I would prefer other companies got more love.

I played for 2 years to dropping it for many months now and I don't feel i will come back only for a day to try the new events at most.

  21. It feels like Behavior doesn't know where to take the game, I've been taking a break sense the Singularity. The game just felt stale, I play DbD mobile it just oddly feels different compared to core.

It seems like Behavior want to make this game competitive but not take the time to balance around that or have split que like DbD mobile or Identity V

  22. In all honesty, the base gameplay is not in its best state at the moment. Killer side has been made too easy to play, thus making survivor side really boring to play, if you know you are likely going to lose every single round.
But limited time game modes has been a nice breath of fresh air.
One thing I would love to see is a randomizer mode, where everyone has random perks, items, add-ons and so on. Killer side could have a random killer, and maybe even have random cosmetics A mode like this would be super fun to play, since no one will be able to sweat with meta-builds every single game!

  23. bhvr should host like a server for volunteers who want to give gameplay improving features and add them to the game, making them not waste time on fixing the game itself and just focus on whatever the heck they are doing.

  24. I hate the concept of playing a killer with no mobility and losing every game because of how fast the game has become. 5k hours and if you don't play the best killers/perks it's a waist of time.

  25. They should add a gamemode like hide or die did, all survivors spawn on map, a corruption ball spawns randomly on the map, 1st survivor reaches it becomes the killer and has to kill every survivors before the timer ends and they revert back to survivor. Last one standing wins etc. Can't tell you how much fun that would be in dead by daylight.
