Yesterday as we all watched Dead By Daylight drop a bomb on us with the announcement of the Ringu chapter coming in March, Polygon was simultaneously publishing and interview article on their website done with Mathieu Côté from Dead By Daylight and Reiko Imayasu a producer from the Kadokawa Corporation.

In the interview they give us a glimpse into the upcoming Ringu chapter 23 DLC of Dead By Daylight and discuss how they’ll balance elements from the chapter between the original The Ring 1991 novel by writer Kōji Suzuki and the 1998 Ringu film! They suggest there will be something in the chapter for survivor mains! Will presumed killer Sadako Yamamura have a corresponding survivor to go with her? Who would it be? Let’s read through the interview and discuss! Tinfoil hat not necessary?

I imagine if she's not gonna operate like the usual slasher like killers I'm imagining she won't even have an M1 basic hit cause she just doesn't seem like the type that would smack/punch you lol. I'm thinking she'll likely be grabbing onto you / choking you out and make you see fucked up images, kinda like a deteriorating sanity type of thing. I'm hoping in the survivors pov she's like spirit in terms of walking animation were it kinda phases

So, we still have yet to get updated maps for several killers…so what if one of these maps will be updated to include the well and such so she could share the map with that killer…Similar to Nurse and Clown sharing a map. I could see her sharing a map on one of the red forest or the swamp maps…What if THAT is why we have yet to see any further updated maps?

Yea I think I'll be a interesting chapter and I've never asked for The Ring to be in DBD or I never heard anyone else say they wanted it, but I'm not complaining it sounds like a awesome chapter and I'm really excited to see the ability,mori& killer power. And I've seen some of the first film, not the old one and I've seen some of the remake, but I want to go search them and watch them so I can at least get a idea of how she can be in DBD

  21. We have to remember that the HUD/UI was changed because of "up coming features" so far with the characters we have their indications probably would have worked fine on the old.

  23. What if its like a Freddy type situation. Where who ever watches the video tape is the one to get tormented by her, forcing the other survivors to share in the torment so that the current survivor doesn't die. I'm also wondering if she is going to be like pyramid head and kill with a mori and with her power, since the video tape can kill you. I love this freaking chapter!!!

  34. If I had to guess who it’s gonna be, I’m putting money on Reiko because she was the one who survived the movie. It could also be the MC from the book, but I haven’t got to reading it yet

  35. "Physical matches the 'hooking' of a Surv" … maybe… just maybe the surv won't be hooked but is trapped in a television. And to save the surv you have to 'watch the tape' or take the curse from Sadako. I'm so excited for her 😀 she was/is one of my biggest nightmares since childhood – good work BHVR!

If I’m not mistaken, I believe the devs mentioned awhile back that one of their big ideas for the future of mori’s was that they were considering incorporating it into core game mechanics so that it was always a lingering threat to survivors. Something that the killer would have to build up to with gameplay. I can’t see Sadako lifting survivors and putting them on hooks, but killing is a big part of their lore.
    I would not be surprised if this chapter was used to either introduce a new core gameplay mori mechanic, or for Sadaku to have their own way to mori, like Pyramid Head.

  40. This and Aliens are my dream chapters, I never thought I’d see the day that Ring was added. I got laughed at in various comment threads because the concept of a psychological killer didn’t “fit with dbd.” I’m happy they were wrong and I can’t wait to see my favorite horror license! Reading the books again right now in anticipation!
