Just recently got into Dead by Daylight. The premise is simple: 4 survivors try to accomplish QTE tasks while a single killer hunts them down. In reality, there’s a LOT to learn.
Here’s a quick video about my experiences as a beginner to give anyone else considering trying the game a perspective on what it’s like to start out.

Your audience seems more inclined to this game. It's very novel to see thoughtful insight from a beginner. Great start. This game requires knowledge in plentiful aspects, far beyond any conventional game. It would take years to master if that's your goal. Its a slow progress, but it's satisfying seeing your skill level improve throughout the time you play.
welcome to the club it's great to have you. I've got over 2500 hours in this game. what i like is how every game is a slot machine you never know what you will get.
Welcome to the fog and that's also a warning due to the toxicity too 😂
If you want someone to play with feel free to friend me in-game: Joes_mamma00 #8fb8
I'd love to help you level up and take chase for you 🙂
You've got a great attitude. Glad you've joined our community. I die all the time b/c i'm usually way to altruistic.
Another thing that can help to keep a sane mind is remember 3+ die loss, 2 tie, 1- win. Just b/c you died doesn't mean you didn't win and vice versa.
"I've started playing Dead By Daylight,"
I'm so sorry.
beautiful girl ): If I catch you, I'll definitely tunnel you. Nicely.
For me, it’s fun getting to experiment with different kinds of builds with different perks. Especially, if you’re a solo survivor because the solo q experience is horrendous… 💀
If you're looking for peak survivor tutorials, watch Mr Tatorhead. If youre looking for a killer that makes generally relaxing and comfortable entertainment, watch stalkyboi. If youre looking for a bunch of info about the game, watch Pixelbush, and Otz. I would recommend a particularly entertaining survivor channel, but I forgot their name, so instead I recommend Demi. If youre looking for the guy that is literally responsible for major changes in the game, watch CoconutRTS.
If you see knight. Bow to him
"Stop while you still can."

This is refreshing to see: someone enjoying the game and playing to learn. It's great to hear somebody appreciating the game for what it is.
Subscribed.
Increasing controller sensitivity will help you have an easier time looking back while running away
Watch the creator called Wolfe or King Wolfe if u really want to learn some of the lesser used and yet highly useful tactics in this game, like funneling( you basically draw out all the other survivors into your funnel using bait) . Trust me the fun what we experience as a killer for the first few hours goes down drastically when survivors who learned what's actually fun for them shows up. That's when king Wolfe's tactics will prove useful to bring back fun into your games while playing killer
I’d definitely also recommend Mish as she’s very good & has made a beginners guide on how to loop.
There’s also a few builds friends or teammates can run to make it much easier for you to enjoy, will happily help out if needed 👏
From my personal 400 hours experience, I can say that the community is NEVER racist, homophobic or particularly hateful, they just tell you that you're trash, and occasionally, that you need to get a life.
Little fun experience I had: I once got a call on playstation from another player in the lobby, I accepted and I heard a female voice saying "be a good boy and do the gens" and just turned off the call while I busted out laughing 😭
This community has also a great sense of humor, you'll see why.
I think that those little interactions are what makes me feel like I'm actually playing against actual people and not just bots like in games like Fortnite
i liked for the cat
Starting dbd nowadays…how much do you hate yourself? 😅
Jokes aside, i have 6k plus hours and sometimes i don't know wtf i'm doing in this game xD And trust me, as a killer you can tell if someone is new to the game.
Best advices – when you died, watch the rest of the team, sometimes you are matched with really good players. Read the perks and addons in the end screen, it helps a lot to understand some situations.
And – probably the most important – play the other side yourself. When you know how the game looks for killers and you know their abilities you will be a better survivor^^
Always read the patch notes, the devs change a lot sometimes. Its really helpful to keep track on changes.
For looping, keep track of the killers red stain. You can see it or the killer through some gaps in tiles or if you move the camera enough to look over some tiles. Its a bit more advanced but if you remember this you easily can get longer chases^^ Try to make the most out of pallets, remember your "job" besides doing gens is to waste as much of the killers time^^
You probably heard about this but as a pig player (and surv main) i have to say it 😅 Please note: Only "boop the snoot" when a) the pig is crouching near you and grunts multiple times without hitting you. If it hits you, run and never trust this player again, or b) only when there is absolutely no other option left to survive the match.
Same goes for t-bagging ghostfaces, it can be a friendly one or a deathtrap.
Also, drop your item as a gift to win over a killer (endgame) is always worth a try. Giving them items as gifts after rough matches (or for very nice killers) also can brighten their mood a bit 😅
I love how motivated you are to learning and how much fun you’re having in this game. Just playing the game as a beginner can be hard because of the trash tutorial and toxic people. I wish you the best in learning this game
Another person that is great to watch is mr tatorhead he shows you step by step how to loop certain loops on each map. If not interested inthat at least hws esclator video on rpd will give you a laugh
Nice video on the new player perspective. Have a nice day xd
The community isn't the most toxic however the community has the worst examples of toxicity.
You should quit the game while you have the chance, it's literally just as toxic to your mental health as league.
I feel sorry for you that you play this game (im chronically addicted to it)
next time try setting for streamers in game, that way you wont have to blure/cover names of the survivors in the video
summary: hate the players and the game
Something I see beginners survivors do vs more experienced survivors is when it comes to looping a tile/pallet. Its the difference between running from killer to a pallet then immediately dropping it a running again without looking where the killer is, and watching the killer the entire time while watching where you're going and looping the tile/pallets multiple times to waste as much of the killers time as possible AND THEN dropping the pallet WHEN AND IF you NEED to. A lot of newer players will just drop pallets like they're nothing and keep running which doesn't waste much time for the killer, and wastes a lot of resources for you and your teamates as survivor.
100%.
The game is NOT about winning. If your goal as Survivor is to win you come with the wrong mentality. If your goal as Killer is to win you approach with too competitive a mentality.
Don't believe the game about having to win. You will lose a lot. You will lose more as Survivor. That's just the game.
Welcome to the Fog, enjoy your stay. Hope to Survive with or hunt you in the future. 😀
The most important and easy way I learned was simply watching others.
I binged tons of Otz, G_birb, and Slates weekly compilations and one: their very good and 2: very helpful for casually learning the game by osmosis
In just a few months I was feeling very confident that I wasn’t a total deadweight at least
You should learn how to play killer. Even if you don’t like it as much as survivor, learning killer helps you become a better survivor and understand how your opponents think
Welcome to the game! Damn, you name sounds so familiar, maybe we even played together? I mostly play killer and go by the strange name "Mori me artist" 😛 When I realise that a survivor is a newby, I mostly try to let them escape and/or give them hatch, but I admit that I have sometimes gone for the weak link, when things really went south, because even a newby can repair a generator, and sometimes you just got to turn the game 3 v 1, just to get some breathing room. So sorry if that happened to you >__<
