Welcome friends and foes, Survivors and Killers. Today we’ll be looking at the Ringu Chapter’s Killer: Sadako Yamamura (AKA the Onryō). I strongly think she’s one of the best licensed characters DBD has ever integrated: what do you think?

Got any suggestions for things you want me to discuss? Leave a comment and I’ll add it to my list!

  1. 18:48 Now, this is ironic. I girl was actually able to give a coded message (hand signal) subtly saying she was being kidnapped due to an instructional she saw on TikTok.

Anyways, I really like this chapter. Similar to what you said, I wasn't too exited for it. Everything in me told me it would be a good chapter given the circumstances of the license, but I just didn't like it for some reason. When I first saw it on the PTB, I knew for certain that lack of enthusiasm was really and truly without reason.
From her somewhat unique and regularly effective power to the amazing visuals, she is arguably an amazing killer. The loyalty, and the few new spins on the concept, will also make this arguably a good chapter as a license.

  2. I hadn't heard of Ringu before the announcement, but I'd been watching videos and learning up some of the lore, and I think she was designed beautifully. When I played the PTB, I really enjoyed her stealthy and passive map control power, rather than the usual overly oppressive in chase killers they've added.

Now I can't wait to see if they'll add other psychological or even Japanese horror licenses to Dead by Daylight. It's opened the door for quite a bit, so I'm hoping something like Re:Zero can get a chance.

Wonderful video breaking down the lore, backstory, power and faithfulness of this adaptation.

  3. Honestly the biggest issue I have with this chapter is how sadakos lore entry says that she was washed away into the fog from the well, which is a bit impossible with the canon of the movies

  4. As much as I love to give BHVR shit. Their art department always knocks it out of the park. I’m shocked that Sadako was adapted as well as she was, and it’s giving me a lot of hope for whatever chapters are next.

  5. The glowing weapon she hurls is kanji. It means cursed and the Japanese VHS and DVD boxes has a cover like that which is true to the source material.
I'm more surprise that kid Yoichi is now older here, that only means he's still cursed to die.

  6. The day BHVR adds the Grudge/Kayako to DBD, with her death growl as part of her terror radius, is the day I will simultaneously love and hate BHVR even more.

Because Sadako and Kayako are parts of my horror junkie journey, and I'd love to see BHVR add more killers (both licensed and original) from different countries and cultures

  7. I really like that they also incorporated elements from the American version, like the fact that Sadako glitches like a TV screen, and her powers include shooting white circles at the survivors. And also, Sadako's new grimier, more water damaged appearance is very reminiscent of Samara.

  9. You know I have many issues with dead by daylight but honestly my biggest issue is that they have built up a great lore for the series but honestly they have not done anything with it, is there a story here for the entire game. Or is the game just making a lore and is going to be frozen in place forever

  10. personally I love how they have implemented her. yeah I can agree that she isn't the best but she is really damn close! this is the first killer that scares me a lot more than any other horror character. and the fact they got the detail with her gaze giving them a heart attack just made her so much scarier to go against.
if they ever do the Grudge, and she can crawl like in the movies. I will personally stop playing survivor out of fear of getting a heart attack!
also fun fact: the kanji she she uses as her attacks says "curse". so basically she is cursing people when she hit them.

  11. She is just wonderfully adapted. I can't wait to play as her and against her. She may not be strong or "meta" but damn she seems fun to play, and also play against. Another killer that can literally scare you, was kinda needed. Just to add a """fun""" factor to the sweaty environment DBD has become

  12. When I first saw the announcement trailer, I genuinely started running about my house screaming in excitement. As the PTB drew closer, I got more and more worried that things weren't going to turn out great. But man, am I happy with how things turned out.

  13. im actually suprised at how well ringu was adapted into the game. when i heard that bhvr was going to have a ringu chapter i was really confused as i felt the license was too random compared to the other licences we have but i was suprised at how everything looks. im glad that japanese horror is being represented
