The Great Dredge Debate

While we can all agree he’s extremely cute, people seem pretty torn on how strong Dead by Daylight’s Dredge is or isn’t. Because y’all seem interested in my goofy goober opinions for some reason, I thought I’d chime in.

The only thing we’re dredging up in my streams is my sordid past: https://www.twitch.tv/das_food

  1. He is fine. Fun to play as but on survivor he is kinda boring at loops like artist where u just leave the tile. Def not OP. He is in the bottom half of the roster somewhere but I havent thought too much about exactly where.

  2. In your 20 minute diatribe, you mentioned “overpowered “ a few times. It bears mentioning that the moment one side can hurt/hook you and the other side can merely scurry away and, at best, annoy with a flashlight or wooden pallet, even the smallest of killers will be overpowered, since both sides are not on the same playing field.

As for your in depth analysis on the newest mess of a mass Behavior has purged onto our screen… it’s an adequate creature. It’s not great. It’s not unbearable, but due to the so called “hype”, facing one 10 times in a row causes any semblance of horror in this game to evaporate as quickly as his remnant.

  3. The only thing I don't like about dredge is that he takes away my ability to see in a game where its already hard for me to see. I hate that.

everything else about him is pretty great though, tbh.

  4. One thing you didn’t mention in the Freddy comparison is that as the game goes on Freddy loses his teleport locations. Once all gens are done all he has is his puddles where dredge can always teleport.

  5. I'm pretty indifferent about the dredge chapter. Killer is mid. map looks pretty cool visually but doesn't have interesting design functionally. survivor is pretty ugly not gonna use her.

  6. I find Dredge incredibly miserable to play against but not because it’s strong, just how horribly such a cool concept has been executed
The hold W power, the extremely divisive effect of Nightfall, on certain maps you’d just want to gouge your eyes out while on Coldwind or something it might as well not be a power, only made worse by some addons that makes Nightfall happen literally 30 seconds after the last
And I’m a Sadako main so it really doesn’t help there’s a definitely better version of her in the game

  7. The only thing i despise about playing against the dredge is his BS Nightfall power. I love not being able to see basically anything for what feels like 3 minutes and basically instantly getting downed when the killer sees me since I can’t get to any other loop.

So I’ve started throwing the game as soon as I see it’s dredge to get out of the game faster

  8. Tbh people complaining about dredge being too strong (and I don’t say this often) just have a problem with playing as an aware survivor, and a survivor who don’t utilize counterplay against the dredge. Unlike other strong and frustrating killers, dredge has plenty of counterplay that people just don’t utilize other than the obvious locker locks.

  9. As a preface I have never played as the Dredge this is a fully survivor side view on him. I started out hating him playing against him in 50% of matches isn't fun and I didn't like his design it felt clunky to me I also had the similar feelings of "He has way too many powers" and "What is the counterplay" but after about a month of him on live servers I have learned that 90% of what he does makes sooo much noise that you know exactly what he's doing permanently. He drops a remnant at a loop? Shift W, he disappears? Oh he must be teleporting to where I'm going better go straight back to the loop. Oh its nightfall? Well I can hear him sucking up every crumb in the map before he makes it to me. If I am in a game with a friend god forbid he chases 1 of us and we don't have to worry about not knowing his location. I think his mobility and anti-loop only take him so far and that in Mid-High MMR he is Low B-tier a better version of Freddy, and Sadako. In Low MMR he is probably up there with other A tier killers like Artist and Spirit. Nightfall Is annoying at best (Constant screaming) and his anti-loop just slows him down (Some Loops it can be good in like maybe some shack spots) and his teleport has counter play if you lock lockers properly. All in all I started out with the hate him mindset but after learning I feel like he is just a little bit annoying. Feel free to critique in the replies I like I said I haven't played him yet so If there is something you guys know that I don't I am interested in it.

  10. The part of Dredge I hate the most is Nightfall. It's not good, but more annoying.

Edit: I also think there is something to be said about the current meta. Pain Resonance is absolutely insane on Dredge. Make Your Choice is also really frigging annoying to deal with.

  11. i dont hate the dredge i just hate nightfall its cool but i dont like the fact that on console its horrible sometimes its to dark and sometimes its just right it might as well not exist on console cuz the brightness sucks as is in dbd i love facing him but once nightfall hits i struggle to not dc because the visual is just awful

  12. I agree it hasn't been long enough to 100% say for sure, but I think he's okay to face, don't love it or hate it, pretty middle of the road. on base level, he's great, he's looping power isn't crazy good enough to just shut down loops rather makes a 50/50 thing which I really like, and his !mobility is good but not instant so it feels fair. The one thing I'm not a fan if is how easy he gets night fall, like I think their should be more measures that you can take to prevent it or make it take more from the dregde. Him just being able to smack two people then teleport around then have it come feels a bit too easy and its a fairly long power up each time. not to mention his remnant becomes far harder to see making his looping way stronger. I think nightfall should be rarer or more counterabble occurrence and the remnant should be easier to see in it like how the dredge himself is highlighted

  13. Personally it's nightfall for me, there's absolutely nothing fun about a pitch black screen, me and a friend did testing with reshade and having max 2,000 brightness makes things slightly better and loopable. I only ever die to him cause of nightfall either then that I'm fine with him.

  14. 1. I think if enough people continue complaining about him, they might add some vicinity limit to his power, like a cooldown to enter certain lockers.
    2. I'm not a fan of his default look. It doesn't read Boogeyman enough which is what he's meant to be, and I think the doll cosmetic fits more with that childhood inspired fear. I still love the concept tho, and Nightfall puts Artist and Trickster to shame in creativity. This whole chapter feels like a better version of "The Village" (2004). The key issue seems to be that there's more excitement for the upcoming changes and overhaul than RoD itself. Some might hate this chapter as a result of the lost meta too. As for Haddie, everyone had different expectations for her character and I think what we got is respectable. I hope her future cosmetics will be based on her Archive adventures, or how she was middle-aged in one universe. Interesting how she's from Canada too. She and Claudette could be friends! 🥰 Fun-fact: Dredge had 6 voice actors collectively for its sounds!

  15. Survivors who complain about Dredge are survivors are really don't understand a little something called 'Awareness' and completely depend on being able to hear the terror radius and or camp safe tiles the entire game. I used to be a killer main, now I'm a survivor main and learned the best way to counter Dredge is literally to 'Take notes of lockers'. Literally the easiest way to fake out a Dredge is to run towards Shack and then dip out of there cause 7/10 times they'll teleport into those lockers thinking they're slick. Is Dredge hard to loop? Not really. His Anti-loop isn't that strong and can be easily baited as well. He's a little hard to 360 I'll say that. Personally I think he's healthy, he's a killer that gets progressively harder to deal with the less Gens there if you do Generators away from lockers first rather than last meaning you're forced to actually be SMART which Generators you do early game.

  16. I don't even have to watch this to know that ur going to say his not op because ur a killer main. His not scary or op his just boring af and annoying. His just another killer that doesn't take skill with an anti loop power

  17. For me Dredge is kinda like old Spirit.

When you get to a Pallet Loop he places his Remnant, you have 3 options.

1.) Bait going forward, go back and hope he Teleports
2.) Keep going forward and hope he cancels
3.) Leave the Loop and hope he doesn't realise

All three are based on hope.. you "Hope" he does something, there's no skill in it, it's just guessing, guessing isn't a skilled play.

He's just another "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't" Killer like Deathslinger, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, Huntress, Demo and Trickster.. you Vault you die.. you don't Vault they the cancel power, you die.

And Nightfall.. idek what they were thinking with this.. one of the Devs was thinking let's add "Screen Sun Glare" as a power.. can't see literally anything.
