The Twins Deserve Better

Of all the Killers in Dead by Daylight, the Twins are certainly one (two?) of them. Most people don’t seem to like the Twins very much, but I’m personally a big fan of Charlotte and Victor and would love to see them played more. Thankfully, I feel like it’s not that hard to raise their player-count. Let’s talk about it.

  1. Food, I want you to realize that Twins is one of the most hated killers to play against as survivor. People joke about how they play one game against her in months, and it's the worst match they've had since the last Twins they fought. Cosmetics raising their pick rates will only make it worse for survivors because they will have a higher chance of fighting Twins.

Twin's power promotes: Slugging, (It's hardwired into her power) Camping, (Just plop Victor down in front of the hook you're putting a survivor on, and it's an easy injure. Pair with insidious and stand somewhere hidden for best effect) and Tunnelling. (Just emerge from the bush and wait 10 seconds) No killer should promote ANY of these play styles with their basekit power.

Case in point – Twins needs a rework, or survivors get to suffer twice as more. Your fix has the same issue as BHVR's actual balance fixes – it doesn't solve the core of the problem and instead covers it up with a flashy poster. However, that poster actually looks terrible, and it emphasizes the problem more somehow.

Take the myth of the Hydra, for example. You cut off one head (giving them more cosmetics) and two more grow back. (higher pick rates = more Twins = higher chance of boring matches) The only way to kill the Hydra is to go directly for the body. My point is that they should fix the actual problem by stabbing the body, or in other words, reworking them. At this point, you can cut more heads off, but the problem is still fixed.

TL;DR Twins needs a rework before they get new cosmetics. Otherwise, the problem with Twins will get worse.

  2. I think its a mix of their aesthetic not appealing to the large majority of people and the fact that their power can be summed up in one word.. "tedious". With their cooldowns being long coupled with the fact that nearly half of the match will be spent with you crossing the map to get whoever you downed. They are very slow and the large amount of bugs that still plague them don't help either

  3. In the years I've played dbd I've encountered the twins three times that i can remember and I remember trying them out thinking "oh maybe their power is just hard or messed up or something." And I was honestly really surprised at how fun they were to play, yeah they're not my main, but i was still dumfounded at how little people play them because they are incredibly fun. Honestly the only thing I can think of to change that would help would be cosmetics like you said because there really isnt any other issue that i can think of. I mean with some less popular killers you can point to their chapter and see that the killer is unpopular mainly due to the chapter being not that well received, but Elodie from what I've seen is a popular survivor so even that excuse is a bit of a stretch.

  4. I don’t enjoy playing twins because a old ds level stun every time I use my power is incredibly anti fun, twins best time was when there was the wake up bug that made it feel incredibly smooth to go from a Victor pounce right back to charlotte, but I guess that would let twins overtake nurse Kappa

  5. i hope they nuke wesker or at least his addons so i can just have one day without seeing him 5 times in a row. or maybe just add a killer cooldown mechanic like they did with maps to find another killer once you;ve faced the same killer too many times. i dont mind waiting an extra 2-3 minutes to find a different killer.

  6. P100 artist main here. My two cents from playing her and people i talked with in chat on why artist might not be so popular, especially in general population is that while she is super powerful and down right unfair in chases. Artist is literally the only other killer who can down multiple people at once from across the map with her slingshot and multiple survivors severed hands.

She isn't exactly the easiest killer to pickup on, cause you kinda need to have a decent grasp on survivor psychology and how survivors move around. to make use of her map control, chase lethality and pseudo tracking outside of chases. and they tend to over commit to using the birds or they apply the birds at the wrong location, the artist slows down when she activates her birds and she gets even slowed down more when she sends them off. this makes hold W against her super effective if she can't read the survivor's behavior correctly and i would imagine feels awful to play with.

thats some of the biggest combination that makes artist very intimidating to play as. vs say the other chase orientated range killers like say slinger or huntress, who may require more mechanical skill to aim but is much more straightforward. also i think the huntress being free and having a simple design with lots of free cosmetics also helps her out.

  7. I think there are a few main reasons people don't play the Twins,

    1. Constant bugs that lock either character out of the game (you could group this with the "jank power" argument but when you're comparing Billy and Blight "jank" to Twins' "jank" I don't think you could group the bugs in with the jank.)

    2. Poor selection of Add-ons, Some killers like Executioner and Nemesis have some pretty bad add-ons but people will still play them because they're iconic video game villains. Now what if you had a killer with bad add-ons but didn't have the iconic villain title? You get the Twins, they really only have 1 add-on slot because Toy Sword is basically mandatory if you want to have a chance at winning then what you have is Madeleine's Scarf or Forest Stew to make Victor a bit faster and Tiny Fingernail to release Victor slightly faster everything else is either terrible or so gimmicky that it's not worth spending the BP to buy them.

    3. Very slow, clunky feeling all around. Yeah it's another "jank" thing but this is more about the snappiness of the characters, it takes so long to be able to control Charlotte after downing someone as Victor, it takes a long time to move at full movement speed when transitioning from Victor to Charlotte, not being able to swap to either character if you're within 16 meters of a hook (understandable as to why but that restriction should be removed if the survivor on hook is currently being sacrificed and even then 16 meters is a lot to prevent camping when it takes so long for Charlotte to be able to swing her weapon or move at top speed when transitioning to her from Victor)

    4. Survivor's ability to hold Victor hostage with no real downside to the survivor, yeah survivors can't work on gens with Victor on them but you wouldn't be working on a gen if Charlotte is chasing you anyway. I guess if the survivor has a flashlight they can't use it because Incapacitated (one of the effects that Victor gives survivors) prevents the ability to use items but Flashlights wouldn't be that useful in chase anyway if Charlotte has functioning ears. Maybe if Victor worked similarly to that add-on for Skull Merchant that became base kit for her where if a survivor that has Victor latched on them fast vaults a pallet caused the pallet to break then victor is immediately recalled so Survivors wouldn't be able to hold him hostage (albeit he should be put on a much larger cooldown if that did happen.)

    5. Gameplay that encourages slugging, from my experience (at least from what I see on Reddit and in the egc) a lot of killer don't like to slug unless they absolutely have to like if they're playing against a Boil Over sabo squad that brought 3-4 petrified oaks. Slugging also means you don't have as much access to perks that activate when you hook people like Barbeque & Chili or any of the Scourge Hooks.

Other than small things like lack of good cosmetic options, VERY poor first impressions when they were first released and being French those are the main reasons I think Twins aren't very popular.

  8. Actually kinda agree. I genuinely like the twins, but I am not a Twins main, and honestly rarely play them. One cosmetic that I thought could be fun is Charlotte in a Marie Antoinette/Rococo gown, playing with the French heritage. The descriptions could detail The Entity either taunting them by reminding them they will never be rich, or rewarding them with what they've always wanted.

  9. You can tell who has actually really played Twins by if they agree with your statement or not lol. I have to disagree with all Twins need is better cosmetics. Yeah there'd be a slight spark in pick rate, but the second they get the Victor stuck in place bug, which has been in game since their release, they'll drop down again. Hell it won't even take that long, most people aren't going to play the only killer who gets punished for using their power successfully. Having to sit through a 7 second cooldown, then an additional 3 seconds to gain movement and full momentum of Charlotte, to walk to anywhere on the map, you're looking at anywhere between 12-40 seconds to pick up a survivor you just downed. Twins are in desperate need of a rework, which has been in works for over a year with no information released still. In the meantime, they could just lower the pounce cooldown back and remove Charlotte's penalty for switching to her.

Notice how in the PTB where they were bugged once again, where the bug simply allowed instantaneous switching, they were picked way more.

  10. I am a former artist main and I will say about the artist, it is decently strong but it gets absolutely destroyed by good players, she is a noob killer and thats where her power comes in. She will definitely be stronger now with all of the healing nerfs, but she is a slow killer to play who does not apply a lot of pressure to anyone good at the game. My personal tier list is middle of B tier for her.

  11. Twins does have the potential to be an A tier killer in the same reasoning as Oni. She can snowball easily with her power but because it isn't as readily accessible to snowball as Oni's is this is why the community won't touch her. Her power is fun, unique and quite literally is the only power that if the Survivors take hostage it hinders them greatly. If someone holds Victor you have effectively removed 1 person from doing generators and healing others. So if you know how to play as Killer the Twins can turn a 4v1 into a 3v1 almost immediately from the start of the trial. The only other problem the community has with Twins is her lacking perk affinity.

  12. Twins were buggy for so long, that the damage has been done. They also need buffs, as they’re lower-mid tier in a very unbalanced game that is replete with broken crap. Victor has really funky hitboxes, which causes him to whiff or collide with objects. They feel damn near unplayable on certain maps.
