The reason there's an audience "cheering" is that the Dredge is the amalgamation of a town of dead cult members fused together by negative feelings and emotions. So basically there's like several damned souls screaming in unison everytime the Dredge melee attacks something. It's creepy but also super validating for your efforts as killer lol
