Okay here’s my theory on what I think this chapter is all about.
I feel like this chapter is technically a sequel to the Hour of the Witch chapter because Sable witnessed Mikaela get taken by The Entity while on stage, but Sable was still intrigued by researching The Unknown, but still wanted to look for her friend so that she could join in the realm instead.
Now idk about Olivia, but if she will be in a future chapter, then I’d call it another sequel since she heard The Unknown in the bathroom to lead her in to capture her, but The Entity captured The Unknown to prevent that.
So here’s my question, is Olivia going to be a survivor in the near future?
EDIT:Somehow, I kept thinking about this all night and right after the PTB came out
Am I the only one who finds this a little funny? Like imagine, here you are – Such an Unknown. Some fool decided to summon you. You woke up from oblivion late at night, pulled on your skin, came up with a plot according to which you will scare her. Here you are standing outside the bathroom door, you start calling her, and then the Entity drags you away and ruin your whole prank(

The Funny thing is, I think it centers around Olivia because The Unknown is just an Info Hazard of sorts. The Unknown doesn’t have a form, so your mind draws you to what you think that form may be, and after all, the final Design takes inspiration from all the fleeting thoughts Olivia speculated about from the multiple theories, but most importantly, her little input of ‘a garden variety serial killer’. There are even some add ons that claim that The Unknown’s appearance may had changed over the years because it’s taking the form of all the theories surrounding it. There’s elements of it being a Cryptid Mimic, there’s Elements of it being an Extraterrestrial, and there are elements of it using hallucinogens within its power. However I’ll say this, I think it’s funny that its lore is just basically it manifested to target Olivia, and because of Olivia’s growing fear and the fact that she tried to connect the folklore of The Unknown and The Fog together…. she forced The Unknown to summon the entity, to which the Entity says ‘Ooooo~ Look at this Eldritch Abomination. Time to add it to my Collection.’ and proceeds to yoink the Unknown into the Fog.

I absolutely love this chapter. This killer is by far the creepiest and most disgusting killer they’ve ever released. The new map is fantastic. The theater looks so good. The lore is great. I love that they tied the new survivor and killer into Mikaela’s lore. It was a nice touch.
The Unknown is such an interesting character to me. A being of pure mystery, not defined by the ideas of a single story. Anyone who attempts to give it a shape openly invite its wrath.
Going off the story, and the details behind its perks and power, I believe the only parts of the story that may be factual are two specific details: One, The Unknown is capable of stealing the voices of its victims; and two, The Unknown was in some way temporarily contained by the OSS. The latter of which is interesting, because while it wouldn't give the being an origin, it would explain a potential event that had happened. Considering the OSS are a precursor to the CIA, and knowing the lore from The Doctor, Carmina, and Jonah, the OSS officials likely formed one narrative about the Unknown to summon it. Once they got, they used its "venom" to create certain drugs. The idea of that last bit is backed up by the hallucinatory effects of the power, Project Apple-pie ending around the same time as MK Ultra, and the Serum Vial and Captured in the Dark add-ons.
This definitely enraged the Unknown, because then the possible legends and ability to spread itself around became buried, which hindered its desires. "I, the nameless legend", it needs these stories to thrive, and the longer it becomes defined the more its existence falters. You cannot be an entity of pure interpretation if your story becomes solidfied. And here in The Fog, that very possibility is almost against it.
The Unknown has no origin, because all the rumors and theories surrounding him ARE his origins. It's an amalgamation of all that.
The axe ? Rumors of a slasher killer.
The tentacles with the mouth on his back? Rumors of an alien, or a demon summonded by a dark cult.
Hallucinations? Rumors of experiments seeking to create a hallucinogenic gas altering reality and creating horrors to terrorize those who inhale it.
The UVC? Rumors that the military recovered an exotic specimen to create a biological weapon.
The imitated voices? The rumors of whispers heard in the darkness of a cinema.
His look ? Rumors of a failed experiment or a monster, which escaped from a compound and is now roaming the woods, and probably the drawing that Olivia made roughly to show what the Unknown looked like.
The survivors killed by his mori and who then disappear? Rumors of people who disappeared without leaving anything behind.
His voicelines in the lobby are there to deceive players. All he wants to do is create more rumors, more theories and legends about himself, to strengthen his power again and again.
He KNOWS that people are speculating about his origins, and playing it to partly spread fear, but also to mock
If you ask me, this killer is a kind of Tulpa, something that appeared passively because of the strong beliefs in the various urban legends surrounding it. Every time a rumor about him emerges, he becomes stronger, and gains a new ability. If one day, someone claims that the Unknown has wings and can fly… he will get wings and be able to fly.
Considering how Dredge came about, via the ritual of the Black Vale, "Fold Energy", and that all of Greenville is under a fault where the Fog emerges, you have your answer. Imagination allowed this thing to appear.

I think this murderer didn't need an axe. I think he would look better with his bare hands as a weapon or with some tentacles. The new killer is very curious, but it's not the same as what they showed us in the teaser… you can't put him in his quadruped form while playing it and he doesn't give sudden scares.
I love it so far. A very mysterious monster (like Dredge) and someone who dug too far into the "myths" its pretty good

Is no one seeing that what it seems to be is an urban legend brought to life by the entity. It was only given a form due to the drawing, the weapon is a separate theory of what this creature is. It isn't real, the entity forced it into existence. 🤯

Actually, I think we learn exactly what the unknown is with that backstory. The Unknown is literally whatever it is defined as. It's current shape only given to it because Olivia drew it as such. It literally is an entity that changes based on the legends and folklore around it. Or atleast that's what I think it was getting at. It's a killer that plays off the literal fear of the unknown. I think that's really cool
Huh, with the MKultra/CIA stuff it kinda just clicked for me that an obvious inspiration is the underrated and mostly-forgotten horror movie Banshee Chapter — CIA mind control drug experiments accidentally create a conduit through to some horrifying dimension of outer darkness, and the creatures that come through puppeteer the bodies of the users, whose eyes go black and whose bodies contort in a very similar fashion.
The movie kicks off when a journalist's kinda free-spirited friend goes missing, and she goes in search for her.
