Welcome, friends and foes, Survivors and Killers. Today we’ll be taking a second look at The Blight (AKA Talbot Grimes) in an attempt to understand the gulf between his intellectual characterisation and his wild and frantic gameplay.

BLIGHT POG BLIGHT POG BLIGHT POG
Hehe ha hahaa
you're the only person who can talk about lore for a game that does not need lore and still make it interesting enough to start believing that the game needs lore
I'd say it's quite likely that the Entity provided the other killers to Talbot for experimentation. To see if they could be made stronger/better, to see if they can be made more controllable (there are several that are pretty intractable), just to punish them, for shiggles, to harvest the killers' pain/fear, to reward Talbot for being a good little monster… I could think of lots of different reasons it might supply him with test subjects.
Haven't finished the vid yet, but I did find it ironic how I LOOOOVE the Twins for the exact planning and methodic aspect you pointed out….and then Blight's somehow my second favorite killer. I suppose that that's because I just like going fast lol. I think maybe the whole pinball mechanic is cruel irony about how Talbot was always so eager to rush into things and not worry about the consequences to others in his life that in his afterlife he's forced to rush headlong into objects to get anywhere. That's my take.
Apart from the fact this video was great as always, I'm happy we share the love for the Twins ❤️🥺 (btw, I like Adiris, but I'm just so horrible at playing her, that I can't say much about her playstyle. I was never able to get a grasp on her D:)
Btw, the first thing I thought when seeing the Blights teaser was "Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" – he just reassembles this so much!
Love the video!
If I remember correctly, the devs did say that Jekyll and Hyde was the inspiration for Talbot Grimes in one of their QNAs.
Probably dump Idea but:
Could the power also represent how the killer saw the alchemist ? A sudden nobody show up and starts kidnapping super human monster like mad man
Awesome video! But I just looked on the wiki and it says Compound Thirty-Three, not thirty four xD awesome video though, I just wanted to let you know. Amazing video as always.
I enjoyed the video, but I wholly disagree about your opinion of his power and how fun it is, but knowing that you really enjoy the Twins makes me understand why you don't like him
Really good to see someone with such a willingness to fully understand and research the lore and give it back to us in such a well written form, keep it rolling lad!
Superb video. I feel the real tragedy of the Blight is that he was more intimidating as the Alchemist, an enigma trying to harness the Realm's power rather than escape. Instead we got a conceited man who was a parasite long before the Entity's influence. They missed an opportunity to expand upon Vigo and Benedict Baker as well. If Behaviour remembers them at all lol.
Singed from league: experiments on actual living beings while being conscious and feeling everything. The experiments were so painful that a subject quite literally rip it's arm off because it felt better without it.
Pixel: I do love game scientists
what if his power is a visible representation of the struggling process to perfect the serum, repeatedly "hitting a wall" before finally getting it right?

I mostly like Talbot for how they take his Gothic Horror backstory and really make it work in the world of Dead by Daylight.
He's got the arrogance of early 19th century scientists who "thought only of what they could do and not where or not they should." But it also adds in a critique of colonialism that sacrificed millions (if not billions) of black and brown bodies in the name of "progress."
Talbot is one part Jekyll, one part Frankenstein, in that even his attempts at redemption / taking responsibility are ultimately destructive to himself and others. Despite inspiring figures like the Hulk, Hyde was actually said to be smaller than Jekyll to illustrate how the serum was making him "less of a man," hence why Blight is a hunchback.
In the end, I think the pinball killer was the best possible choice for a Gothic Horror monster in DBD since a lot of the monster that were scary back are rather tame in comparison, only really having enhanced strength or "madness" as their weapons / powers. And making him into "the smasher" would've been boring, especially since not all the maps have breakable walls yet. And it also adds to the irony that an educated gentleman ended up being turned into one of the most grotesque, inhuman creations of the Fog.
My one critique is that he's a Scotsman who apparently never had any issue attending a London school? Like, I know Scotland is not Ireland and that the current Royal family is descended from Scots, but there's still been a lot of bad history and bad blood that you think would've been relevant to his upbringing / education.
Sorry if this is disjointed, I wrote and rewrote it a couple times.
people keep forgetting that the blight is more than an alchemist, he is an addict. ("He feels the hunger. Not for food or drink. Not for talk or fun. For a flower. A single flower. For serum." the hunger pg 3)
his power makes sense if you look at him in that context he is just like a starving dog lashing out to appease the entity to get a flower just so he can get his fix as was the agreement between them ("His hunger confuses him. Oppresses him. He'd do anything for that feeling again. Anything. Even… return to the trials. He would. He'd rip survivors and killers apart limb from limb for that feeling again. He begins to mumble words. A promise… one flower… one flower… and I will do anything…" the hunger pg 5)
Why would the entity allow some lanky British guy to kidnap and experiment on its killers
Blight my true love
The Online Disinhibition Effect reminds me of the Oscar Wilde quote “Give a man a mask and he shows his true face”
Great video as always. I was also wondering, if you could have made a map that would have came out with felix and blight what would it be?
I always get so damn excited whenever you upload, and this is no exception!
Keep up the great work Pixel!
