The Story & Meaning Behind the Killer’s Very-Rare Add-Ons (Dead by Daylight)

Hey everyone, today we’re looking into the purple addons, looking at their meaning, significance, and story they have behind them. For this video we won’t be going over every add-on as many don’t have too much of a meaning. There’s some characters for example that just have more literal addons like Trapper or Skull Merchant, where the addon is more of an attachment to their power, so there’s not much for me to discuss there. Therefore, I’ll simply be touching on the ones I find interesting and worth discussing.

  1. Trickster also had during some time before being changed, an addon called "Gumi's murder",I think it was some sort of pendrive with the voice and possibly screams of a person called Gumi

  2. I would love if Add-Ons would cosmetically change the killer. (For example: Whatever symbol on Wraith's Bell will appear on the Bell) or (For Example: Each Breath Add-On of Nurse will have a different scream when Nurse is charging her blink)

  3. Wasn´t Jenner the restrained nurse that turned Sally to killing (ultimately killing Jenner too)? The little girl Sally cared for was just called "the Anxious girl" and got her own breath as green addon.
Also Im a bit surprised that when it came to Tarhos, you didn´t mention the broken contract with Vittorio that was torn apart. It is pretty major part of his lore.

  4. I think the diamond cufflinks from Trickster are worth mentioning here. They were found on the corpse of one of his victims, a stalker of his who got too close. He gouged out the fan's eyes and replaced them with the cufflinks.
"Rubbing off the blood, there is so much to be seen in the glitter."

  5. "When planning subterfuge, begin with a council of none." Renjiro's doctrine.

I like to believe this is hinting at the fact that Renjiro, Kazan's father, caused the boat he arrived on to crash. He either took this piece from the boat's hull after the shipwreck, or the taking of it caused the boat to fill with water in the first place. In any case, quotes from Renjiro's Doctrine are always related to the add on and story in question. Blackened Toenail describes why Kazan made his trek to try and heal Akito's leg, because Renjiro laid out in his doctrine that a father is supposed to sacrifice for his children. So why, then, is the add on dedicated to the crash talking about subterfuge? There seems to be a connection there, but for the life of me I can't figure out why he would have wanted to sink the ship. Maybe it ties into the theme of the Yamaoka's being vengeful.

  6. The Distorted Photo was found by Reiko Asakawa, Yoichi's mother, at a holiday cabin in rural Japan. (Ringu 1)
The individuals pictured are unnamed victims of Sadako, students, who were shown dying very early on in the movie. A side-effect of Sadako's curse is that affected individuals have their visage distorted in photographs.

  7. I personally think the cenobite add ons are indicative of the cenobites inability to escape, I think then when pinhead was taken, the others came after him, and they failed, that’s they the tooth has been torn from chatter and the lens is cracked

  8. Jill's Sandwiches is also a place either in RE2 or more likely Dead Rising. As a reference to RE1. Its been a while, but Capcom has referenced it enough. Just a background thing tho.
